Wendell Diller: "You don't wanna put a subwoofer with a Magneplanar; it doesn't work."
JKF011, you have mid sized Maggies. The big ones go much deeper and have more punch. (Bass performance also depends very much on the room -- swings of 20 dB are common. If you listen to the larger Maggies, what you'll hear is bass that's *realisti...

Hi Russ, Someone told me that the LRS+ is there but hard to find. They seriously need to work on their website!

jss/the audio amp Bass frequencies aren't "omnidirectional" -- they're no different than treble frequencies. Monopole woofers are omnidirectional because the wavelength is larger than the enclosure (in other words, below the baffle step). As BDP ...

Hi BDP, Didn't know about the ET dipole, interesting! While they share dipole virtues, the GR Research and Magnepan subs are somewhat different beasts. The GR is bigger -- the Magnepan sub is a 3' tall triangle that's designed to be concealable. I...

Hi Russ, the LRS has been superseded by the LRS+!
Wendell Diller: "You don't wanna put a subwoofer with a Magneplanar; it doesn't work."
theaudioamp, not to put too fine a point on it, you don't know what you're talking about, as five minutes with a good dipole woofer -- or, if you're scared of listening, a measurement microphone, would tell you.
Magnepan LRS
I've heard the LRS and I don't know of anything that will approach it under $1000, if your goal is realistic reproduction of acoustical music. For rock, I'd choose something else or add a sub, because the LRS just doesn't have bass slam. It also n...
Maggie 1.7i vs 1.7 (what was changed??)
I do know what they did, and would love to say, except that they keep it confidential. Steve at the Audio Circle and I did our best to convince Wendell to disclose it, but he said he couldn't tell us what it was. Eventually, I did figure it out, a...
Gee, it turns out Magnepan WILL survive Wendel Diller.
Honestly, that’s pretty offensive. Wendell designed the LRS+. Also the LRS. Also the 30.7. He’s been their head of product development since Jim Winey retired. And Tom Struck is right -- he works his ass off for Magnepan. He’s a very modest guy an...
magnapans.7i and subs
Speakon connectors are great --they handle much higher currents than traditional bananas or spades.

BDP24,Interesting, I'd never thought of running sealed subs and dipoles over the same frequency range. I had considered it, but only using the sealed sub in the bottom octave to boost output and extension there (my IVA's go to about 25 Hz in my ro...
New Magnepan "Concept Speaker" introduced at Audio Connection
I don't think anyone was questioning the quality of a four-woofer array. The research demonstrating that is well known, and as I said, a speaker designer I know (who played a role in the development of the new Maggie) compared four sealed woofers ...
New Magnepan "Concept Speaker" introduced at Audio Connection
What BDP24 said -- four monopoles are as smooth as two dipoles, but the backwave of a dipole will cancel with the backwave of a monopole, so the crossover will always be somewhat problematic.Another consideration here is that the 30.7FC is intende...
New Magnepan "Concept Speaker" introduced at Audio Connection
That would be interesting. Though they have different purposes, in that the Magenpan woofer is designed to be small and easy to hide. When it comes to output and bottom-octave performance, I've no doubt that the GR Research/Rhythmik comes out ahea...
