I want to burn hi-rez DVD audio discs. Use TDK, Sony or Taiyo Yuden. Lowest error rates, and they make their own discs. see link for added info.http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp tough to do unles you are willing to do some work to a ss pre or have someone do it for you. First thing you need is a monster transformer, almost all use 15-30 watters, need 500 watts. numerous other upgrades are needed regardless of unit price.
Top resistors you'll get the biggest bang for the buck using them in the shunt positions or interstage loading points. If you really want to hear what they sound like, solder an RCA on each end and instert in a length of interconnect betwen a source and pre amp...
Top resistors Vishay VSRs. Similar to the S104. the biggest improvement are the shunt resistors (47K, 100K etc) where they are loading the output of one of the stages. http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/vishay/vsr.pdfAlso keep in mind they will let throu...
Top resistors I have used the Vishay bulk foil for years, in both tube and SS gear. They add no character of their own to the sound. If a user installs them and finds them bright, all the Vishays are doing is letting through the sonics of that circuitry or devi...
loading resistor question And that is just the loading resistor. IMagine what the sound is like when you do the whole audio path in vishay resistors!!!!!Same is true with half track tape electronics. Have been doing both for quite a few years. Just as an FYI, I prefer the ...

Budding Virgin Audiophile Needs Help I would recommend sending your arm back to the folks in the UK that will do the re-wire with litz tone arm wire. will make just as big if not more of a difference than which arm board you select. best.
Sony TA-E88B ??? Its been a long time since I listened to one, but I would not toss it out yet. Likely would benefit from power supply bypass caps. and if there are interstage coupling caps, bypass those too. If you shoot me the schematic, I may be able to help yo...
Wish to upgrade phono preamp caps and other "When bypassing, I assume that means adding in parallel, the fore mentioned caps?" Yes, that is what it means. best.
MF V-DAC and power supply The VDAC is really good, but is even better with the new power supply and PCB cap upgrades, I have done three of the VDACs, everyone is amazed at the sonic improvements; sounds like a much more expensive DAC
Wish to upgrade phono preamp caps and other 12000 uf sound like Power supply caps. You are not going to be able to stuff a film cap in place of those. Your best bet is to bypass each of those caps with a .47uf, a .22uf ad a .01 uf film and foil. dont use metalized film, make sure you are ge...
WHAT ABOUT CLOCKS? The esoteric is a nice clock, but if you are going to spend that kind of cash, take a look at the antelope audio atomic clock. and any decent clock will make a noticeable improvement.
Korg tascam etc. recorders any comments? The best way to do it is with the Korg or Tascam and then do any editing on a workstation. Any A to D conversion done in a PC or laptop is going to be a sonic compromise. Ony exception would be a Mac based Rosetta 200 system where the A to D conve...
Best mod of analog outputs for TASCAM DV-RA1000HD I have modded three of these units. Two were full upgrades, with Vishays at each location in the signal path. The other was cap upgrade only. The upgrades make a major improvement. AFter comparing to Rosetta 200, I have to say the stock or modded ... |
