Speaker cabinet materials. We use aluminum, baltic birch plys, mahagony bambo plys sometimes MDF if it needs to be painted. Corian works good, I find acrylics do not. We use Deflex, acousta stuff, wool, cork, silicon, rubber and carbon fiber in cabinets depends on design goa...

Nearfield listening I sit 7 ft from my 3 way front horn using 8 15in woofers in vert array 4 per front horn with comp mid horn and comp tweeter horns. Design integrated seemlessly even as close as 6ft away. ea is 350lbs ea. 6ft-h,46in-w,38in-d. Most large loudspeaker...
Tweeter height Tweeter height and listening height depends on design choice and owners set up. For most loudspeakers best is ear between mid and tweeter, or mid centered on ear with tweeter above, slightly back from mid. No one listening height works for every lo...
Economics of small speaker manufacturers While I have built a electrostatic. And owned many factory built. I dont feel electrostatics at this time are worth investing in. As Duke said many companys already make good stats I dont find them to be my cup of tea anymore. Stats have problems ...

Economics of small speaker manufacturers Manufacters sell to distributors. The distributor marks up over 30%-100% Again dealer marks up 30-40%. So most factory direct loudspeakers would cost at least 3xs as much if purchased from a brick and mortor shop. Many manufacters produce items in...
Preference for large drivers? Limited excursion maters much in audio reproduction small drivers are pushed harder than large they have to work harder to produce same SPL or frequincy range. Large excursions also mask detail that limited xmass drivers reproduce. You see more sm...
Need opinions on super tweeters as an add-on Tbg some ribbons are both tweeters and super tweeters, many can cover hi-frequincys and ultra sonics. Super tweeters are best matched to ea loudspeaker. The one super tweeter for all loudspeakers is hit or miss when in real use. Many loudspeakers ...
Tuning a back loaded horn The real wool is treated you will not have a moth problem. You tune a BLH from the driver down you shouldnt need to damp mouth but this all depends on cabinet design and driver choice. I could help you more if I knew this.
sub distortion? Hi Bob trying to think what I can add and my mind goes blank wish I where a technical writer but saddly am not just a loudspeaker designer;)But I will try. Bass horns do have some problems size, cost and if not done right you can pick up much soun...
sub distortion? Why I perfer bass horns limited excursions allow detail to bass that sub designs lose to excursion and distortions. Also bass horns are always at ease never pushed hard. This again allows more bass detail than subwoofers which need 100 watts or mo...
Which speakers will fill 5,000 cubic ft coherently When I design a loudspeaker I try my best to keep above 8ohms and near stable. 16ohms even better. But many tubes amps will do fine into 4ohms just depends on design, transformers etc. Still best to shoot for 16ohms or at least 8 ohms if you want ...
Tuning a back loaded horn Eldartford,Back loaded horns are used in many full range driver systems using lowther AER fostex drivers, others. They are more of a hybrid of TL BR and horn in a folded pathway cabinet. But a few are true full back loaded horns but even they need ... |
