Best balanced linestage/preamp for $4000 or less ??? You may want to look at the Aesthetix Calypso.A great sounding preamp that can be found used for under $4K. I believe it's $5K new.http://www.aesthetix.net/calypso.php
"Bookshelf" speakers designed to be placed near the wall behind them? You should look at the Vandersteen VLR Wood speakers. They are designed to be used placed in a bookcase or in close proximity to the wall. They sound great and are reasonably priced. Good Luck!http://vandersteen.com/products/vlr-wood
Basic system for living room You might want to look into the Belles Aria Integrated and a pair of Ryan 610 speakers or the small Harbeth’s. This system meets your criteria for price and listening concerns. If you are near Verona, NJ you can listen to this system at the Audio...
Best tube preamp for Quicksilver V4 tube mono's (newest KT150 version) I had the best luck with an Aesthetix Calypso on my V4’s. The Audible preamps work well with Quicksilver amps. I also had good luck with the PSE HL 1 but they are no longer made and are really hard to find. Good Luck!
Audible Illusions modulus 3A, what would be the next level of up grade? You may want to look into the Aesthetix Calypso. A fantastic preamp from a great designer.
First time tube integrated buy +1 for the new Quicksilver integrated amp.

Tube amp for Vandersteen Treo CT? +1 on contacting John Rutan. He carries all of the brands mentioned and will be able to give you great advice based on your requirements.
Tube amp for Vandersteen Treo CT? I also went from Quicksilver V-4’s to the Aesthetix Atlas and I think the Atlas is the finest amp I have ever heard with any Vandersteen speaker. In my case I was using Vandersteen Quatro’s not the Treo’s. Based on my experience I would go with th...
Has Anyone Uesed A PrimaLuna Amp With Harbeth Speaker's Having owned 3 pairs of Harbeth's, currently the SHL5+, I agree with tswila that Harbeth's do not sound right with tube amplification. I tried Quicksilver V-4' and Silver 88's and an Audio Research VT100 with both the original SHL5's and the monit...
Vandersteen VLR Wood ..any love for these? The main thing about the VLR's is that they need to be as close to the wall as possible. They also work surprisingly well in a bookcase.I used Audioquest Rocket 88 speaker cables with mine. They need an amp with good drive as well. I had good luck...
inexpensive xlr vs expensive rca I would respectfully disagree about any Ayre product sounding better using RCA connections and would suggest sticking with your XLR cables to the QB9. Having used both the QB9 and now the Ayre Codex, both pieces sound dramatically better running b...
Dad needs phono stage recommendation for daughter You might want to look at this, iFi - Micro iPhono 2 MM/MC Phono Preamp-https://www.musicdirect.com/phono-preamps/ifi-micro-iphono-2-mmmc-phono-preampThis has gotten consistently good reviews and is within your budget.
looking for a new pre/amp or integrated amp Yes, most DAC’s don’t have an Ethernet input anyway. Today USB is one of the most popular inputs for DAC’s when you want to play music stored on your computer. I believe the maximum distance supported by USB is 5M. Ethernet is used to connect your...
looking for a new pre/amp or integrated amp I have not seen any integrated amplifier that has an Ethernet input except for the Auralic Polaris which does not have XLR inputs and is outside your budget . It is mostly streaming devices that use Ethernet. Once you move your computer closer to... |
