Considering going Vinyl--Please talk me out of it I agree with Elizabeth and Hdm. If my house burned down today I would not replace my turntable and all my vinyl. Well, maybe not. Certainly not all 1500 albums, maybe only half of them and 1500 more.Seriously: It is a wonderful hobby. Definition: ...
Your ONE all time favorite love song? Moody Blues, For My Lady
Record weight / clamp for Thorens MK II Souther Clever Clamp $30 - clamps it down, does not add mass/weight.
Stylus Cleaner: RRL 9 vs. Audiotop I'm not experienced with Audiotop. I've used Onzow, Magic Eraser and RRL #9. I like Onzow for a between sides cleaning, but in my experience RRL #9 leaves the diamond pristine - a condition I don't always achieve with other methods. It's a keeper ...
Best stereo recievers of the 1970's? I actually owned Pioneer SX-650 (Paid $239) - amazing how things stick in your head. But I lusted after Marantz.....
How isolated is your hi-fi? I'm pretty lucky, I have both. The HT is in the family room off the kitchen - it has blackout shades and wiring in walls and the big Vandersteens are 3' from the back wall, but the only "sacrifice" the wife has made is the 58" gloss piano black RP...
Cable angst and Vandersteen 2 ce signature I can't go for larger speakers in the room I have. I'm only concerned with getting the best out of them that I can.
Cartridge for older Thorens TD 165C Your mileage may vary; costs nothing to try it. I also thought I "heard" the brush, and didn't like the sound.
What to use if I just want one cleaning fluid? Art du Son.
Power conditioners .... improve VIDEO? I added a Monster HTS2000 - really basic unit a couple years back and noted much more improvement in video on my Pioneer Elite 58" than audio. Not much cost, demonstrable improvement.
Finding Pure Water for Record Cleaning - very long No one has mentioned Brita. Would it be useful/cost-effective to buy drug store filtered water for a buck and run it through a Brita filter (ACF) for a backup?Science challenged and shallow-pocketed audiophile.
Rega upgrades/tweeks I do, indeed. At my age I confuse terms sometimes, it is the groovetracer w/ruby. Every LP is another small adventure. I'm also learning the CRITICAL importance of keepting the stylus clean.............
New TT or old I see nothing wrong with playing your LP's on a turntable of the same vintage as your vinyl. Do it, and enjoy it. If you decide to get more into it later, I'd recommend a record cleaning machine before upgrading the turntable. Just my two cents.
Rega upgrades/tweeks I've installed the deepgroove subplatter with ruby bearing, and use the TTPSU with my P-5. I am now solidly in Yesrogers camp; no more upgrades. I'm just buying more vinyl and enjoying it. I've also quit trying different cleaning fluids; I'll stic... |
