VAC Sigma 160i MM phono stage question
What MC cartridge are you using? I'm running a Sumiko Blackbird MC directly into the MM phono stage, as it does not require a SUT with it's high 2.5 mV output.
Selling Aesthetix Pandora - What price?
I've subscribed to the Bluebook here long enough to realize how inaccurate it is. I don't subscribe anymore. Thanks for the Google search tip that is handy! Is this the one you bought?
Selling Aesthetix Pandora - What price?
11-29-14: MechansI am curious about this question of a price which is "more than fair"?. How do you decide what is fair and what isn't? Obviously "fair" cannot be determined by one party, it is a subjective term, just like "musical". What one thin...
I'm in a preamp pickle: ARC Ref 1 VS CJ 17LS
Hey Labrec, you're right, the level of ridiculousness on this forum has to stop! So why not just stop posting, then us grown ups can talk rationally. Sorry to be harsh. :)
I'm in a preamp pickle: ARC Ref 1 VS CJ 17LS
Close, but you got that one letter off. It's actually once you go VAC you never go back. ;^)
Selling Aesthetix Pandora - What price?
Hi Paul, welcome to Audiogon. Why don't you post an ad and find out what it's worth? Then you can tell us. Folks can always guess, but in the end, it's worth what the market is willing to pay.
I'm in a preamp pickle: ARC Ref 1 VS CJ 17LS
Hey Jerry, you knucklehead, what Thiels are you running now? Still prefer the 3.6's, or have you swayed back to the 6's?I see that your fellow Volunteers, Adam and Dennis, are both Mac crazy guys now too! LOL!
Would silver cables beat UP-OCC copper?
All things considered, the final, conclusive answer to your question of would silver cables beat UP-OCC copper? It depends....on system synergy, personal taste, cable design, etc. Now, let's move forward to final conclusions on the SS vs. tube deba...
I'm in a preamp pickle: ARC Ref 1 VS CJ 17LS
11-27-14: Bill10907Thanks for your opinions. I think I'll look for a CJ.Although I have heard that the ARC stuff can be harsh when listening for extended periods, I suppose I was just dreaming that they softened up with a "REFERENCE" preamp. That'...
Lego turntable
For the audiophile who has EVERYTHING!! LOL!!
I'm in a preamp pickle: ARC Ref 1 VS CJ 17LS
Wow! You could hardly pick two more opposite end of the spectrum candidates to choose from. The yin or the yang, chocolate or vanilla? ARC is very fast, articulate and transparent, but can sound thin, brittle and hard in the wrong system. CJ is ve...
Stereo power amp for $10k
I agree with those who posted that a $10K amp would be wasted in this setup. I would only consider an amp of that level if I had the Marantz AV7702 running through the Cinema or HT bypass of a top quality stereo preamplifier.
VAC Sigma 160i MM phono stage question
I agree with much of what Mulveling has to say. I own a 160i (non-SE) with MM phono stage, and it is quite good. Yes, I have heard better, but not for under $3K list prices. The only concern I have about Mulveling's comments is that he says he's he...
SONIC FRONTIERS LINE 3...TUBES & CAPS upgrade
+1 Brf's post. I have always been more impressed with Sonic Frontiers build design than their sound qualities. Their tube amps and preamps sound very 'solid state' like to me.
Tube Curious - Preamp Suggestions
Well it sounds as if you are smitten with ARC, nothing wrong with that. If it still turns out to be a bit too analytical, you could always switch to warmer cartridge and/or cables.
