A lot of unrealized systems out there... I see that you are new here, welcome to Audiogon. You are right to be skeptical, there are some strange goings on here, not everything is at it appears. You are best to proceed with caution, as there are many sharks in the waters. While there are ma...
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear 12-25-14: GrannyringJohn, the IC's are good and for the money a great buy. The speaker cables are the real game changers however. They are the pick of the Amadi litter! You must try these as Phil will work with you on a trial. They are the best I h...
SONIC FRONTIERS LINE 3...TUBES & CAPS upgrade Pardon me, but I am confused. You say you are looking for another regular or SE+ Line 3, and then you say that it did not sound very good. Then you proceed to mention looking at preamps from VAC and VTL. I really don't have any idea what direction...
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear Charles, I understand what you are saying, and I always enjoy reading your posts as well. You system certainly looks very well put together, I'd certainly love to give it a listen (though I would probably add a turntable). ;^)Happy Holidays, and a...
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear 12-25-14: Charles1dadI do however find that for what ever reason high quality silver just sounds better than equal quality copper. Charles, your forgot one very critical point, adding IMHO.From my experiences, I have found that silver can sound be...
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear 12-24-14: Rodman99999Whatever the component; the better(more transparent) it is, the more it will reveal weaknesses(such as excessive brightness) upstream of it.That goes all the way back to the original recording, which in many cases, might well ...
XLR vs RCA Welcome to Audiogon Codytara. Oh boy, are you ever in for a treat when Audiolabyrinth finds out that you are here! Get ready for a new BFF.I agree with Onhwy61, it depends on what electronics you use. I've been down both roads, but I'm currently u...
Can Silver Interconnects be bright in your gear From my experiences, yes, silver can accentuate brightness. I have found that silver clad copper seems to accentuate this issue even more. However, if your system already leans towards the bright side, you may be better off with copper.
PX-25 tube amp with Merlin VSM speakers? Very nice system Dazzlingmd. Tell me, do you feel the need for a subwoofer using those Merlins? I am currently looking at speakers, and the Merlins are on my list, but I am used to running full range speakers, and my fear is that the Merlins low e...
Phono Preamp recommendation for VPI Prime 12-22-14: KgturnerI'm sure you'll also shortly receive recommendations for a Liberty Audio B2B-1 and a Herron Audio VTPH-2. I can't comment on those, but I ALWAYS see them recommended when people inquire about phonostages.Well the difference is th...
Most overrated audio manufacturers? 12-21-14: Mitch2"Unbelievable profit margins" does not make me think of the audio industry. It does exist in cable-land though, if you count that as part of the audio industry.
Grover Huffman GH RCA ZX+ cables vs... Matt, I do not own any Virtual Dynamics cables or power cords any more. I have in the past, but I found their presentation to be much too forward for my tastes. They do have a nice tonal balance, and excellent dynamics, but I do not care for a lar...
Another cartridge suggestion thread Matt, there is a lot to be said about being in the right place at the right time. Congrats again on your VAC scoop. The XV-1s is a great cartridge, and it will have a bit more body than the Ortofon or Lyra cartridges. That said, the Transfiguration...
Another cartridge suggestion thread I don't know that the XV-1s would be much warmer than the Ortofon, more powerful probably, but not much warmer, if at all. The Koetsu will definitely be warmer, but maybe too warm.I'll recommend the Transfiguration Proteus, nice, natural cartridge...
