First Tube Amp: Advice? Keep spare tubes on hand? Richard,Let us know your thoughts when you receive the amp. I'm assuming you bought it new since you're concerned about burn in. If so, then there probably will be a break in period. However, the good news is there should be some kind of warranty ...
First Tube Amp: Advice? Keep spare tubes on hand? I agree Grant, buy why buy a spare set of tubes at all if one doesn't like the amp? Example: maybe I decide I don't like the sound of this KT88 amp and want to try a EL34 based amp, or a 300B amp. Yes, if he likes the amp he should get himself a b...
Scout vs. P5 Would you be able to reap the benefits given your current set up? You would reap benefits....however, the benefits could keep on reaping as you upgrade the rest of your system, as you seem to suggest when you say "That said, I am using this opport...
First Tube Amp: Advice? Keep spare tubes on hand? I tend to agree with most here, especially Sogood51's reply. I would caution against buying spare tubes too soon. Make sure you like the amp first. I've made that mistake before, buying NOS tubes before the amp/preamp got here, then finding out th...
Moon Audio Referece Integrated vs LSA Signature I have not heard the Sim Audio integrated amp, but if you're looking for a very good hybrid integrated amp, why not look into a APL UA-S1 or BAT VK-300x.Both of these units are very good.Cheers,John
Amazing images of vacuum tubes Cool link, thanks. They should have some Pink Floyd music playing in the background of the EL34 tube movie though, IMHO.Cheers,John

HOMC vs LOMC - same model I prefer a LOMC with a higher gain phono stage. It appears that is not a option for you though. As for HOMC vs. LOMC + SUT, that's a personal choice and opinions will vary. However, if you do choose the SUT route, you will need a second shielded pa...
Has anyone ever cried listening to your system Actually Nietzschelover, now that you've mentioned it, I'll admit it, I did cry while watching Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I guess I now realize that I am a bigger fan of movies than of song.Cheers,John

New vs. old DACs - opinions? I didn't mean to insinuate that new DAC's have not improved over older DAC's, Many replies here are simply stating that current DAC's are better than older DAC's, technology has improved, I think there is no argument there. I was under the impress...
New vs. old DACs - opinions? This question has been asked before, it comes up from time to time. You may find more information by searching the archives.IMHO, I'd say go older dac. For one reason, yes, the newer dacs have newer digital chips, but these are relatively inexpens...
Is cable synergy important? There is something very odd about this thread. Now I'm back to believing Entrope's original diagnosis was correct. Lacee certainly hasn't denied any affiliation with Clear Day cables, and what started as a thread about cable synergy, meaning all c...
Anyone still using CD mats? I gave up on cd mats years ago, when they tore up the transports on my McCormack and EAD CDP's. I do use a Walker Talisman de-magnetizer though, and find it helps out quite nicely, w/o putting any extra strain on the transport.Cheers,John |
