So many good choices at your price point. If you go classic/vintage make sure to have a thorough inspection/refurb. Those speakers are too good for 40 year old caps. Might want to have the crossover checked too.

Friends and myself had lots of qualty control problems with that generation of NAD gear. I much preferred the Onkyo to the NAD or Luxman, but all are good sounding gear.

Interesting thread from 2009, relating advice from Charles Hansen of Ayre that the best thing you can do for music is unplug your TV and DVD player. Some think digital contamination is big issue, others disagree. Easy to test in your own room. 
What to do with replaced tweeters
Depends also if the new tweeters are from the same company as the speakers and are part of the company's upgrade, rather than an after market product. If not, definitely keep the old ones.

Agree with Mapman. The Monitor was also about twice the price of the VS. All that matters is the one you like best. Some members prefer mid 80's CD players.
