Some observations from a former skeptic - and a question
Wow, so much anti-science hostility. It’s one thing to argue about the efficacy of cables, but let’s not get off the rails! Science created audio reproduction. Science improves it. Science probably saved your life once. Science has a say in this m...
The Snob Appeal Premium
high end mid-fi system This caught my eye as well, and initially I took it as a snobby comment since only snobby people refer to their stuff as high-end (un-snobby people might call someone else's stuff high end) and mid-fi is kind of an insult...
Stereophile review of Millercarbon system featuring Tektron speakers
He looks so friendly in the photo.   I suspect it's one of those things where someone is really nice and normal in person but their online persona, being buffered by the ether from actual human interaction, is the opposite.   It's too bad becaus...
How to prevent visitors from touching your system
Smear your gear with a greasy, foul smelling substance.

So This Really Is The End....
I very much miss the record store experience even though I have limited need/desire for physical media. The need is for a place to go, a thing to do, that feeds into my interests, Even a record store doesn’t exactly do that anymore, even though t...
A'gon joke...
In my observation, moderation is becoming more heavy handed in many forums. I can understand why, since so many threads seem to devolve into the same flame wars of "Can you tell the difference in a double blind study" vs. "your system/ears not re...
Has Your Hobby Changed?
Gear is fun.  Music is life. I tend to go through 2-4 year cycles:  get into a music genre, then optimize my system for that sound.  Then deep dive into genre.  Then bored with genre, explore something else, then optimize the system.  Repeat.  Mu...
Update on good Ethernet switch
I love analog audio logic applied to not just digital audio, but network stacks and data transmission protocols. My car works a lot better when I feed her sugar cubes and loosen up the bridle too. Edit:  Ok that was uncivil.  I had a rough day an...
Crossover - hard to find for biamping
I doubt you will get much value out of this configuration.  Active biamping can be very rewarding with an active crossover and bipassing the passive ones in the speakers. Leaving them in, well all you are doing is combining amps.
Tidal class-action
I'm no MQA fan:  (1) end-to-end systems with a clear opportunity to turn it into DRM in the future; (2) end-to-end system that doesn't work - just check dropouts from MQA handshakes with various DACs...open standards that don't require some handsh...
Women Who Rock
That "short list" comment, while probably intending to be humor, went out with Polish jokes.  It's enough. Mia Zapata Polly Styrene Lita Ford All of Sleater Kinney, Luscious Jackson, jeez lots of bands
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
IMHO audio gear reviews are mostly for the purposes of entertainment except where objective facts are provided as part of researching gear. That is not to denigrate as much as properly categorize the purpose.  There are so few lukewarm, much less ...
