How good is good enough? It’s a hobby. If I’m done then what do I do with myself? However, it’s not about more expensive stuff. It’s just taking what I have and occasionally stirring the pot a little. Gear is just fun. I’m just lucky that two separate passions…ti...
Rediscovery Yeah, rip 'em and have the best of both worlds. It takes some work to understand how to optimize the sound of digital. It's worth it!
Martin Logan vs. Everything First, I would say that your subjective opinion on what speakers make you happy is ALL that is important. Second, any hi-fi salesperson is going to find what they think is the weak link (in your system or your mental armor) and exploit that for a...
Any other Pipe And Slippers Audiophiles out there? It's all legal in Illinois now. So yes, weed pipe and I just got a new pair of slippers. But sweatshirt rather than smoking jacket. I'd love a smoking jacket if it did anything special, like a built in stash-box pocket and maybe a lighter coming...
Help with streamer software I think it's interesting that the OP committed to hardware without knowing what software he wanted to run on it. I don't mean that in a critical way - just that my personality would never allow such a leap of faith. I will just add that I do no...
Ethernet Switch Recommendations Please networks are noisy places Yes, but you have to have digital ears to hear it!
SACD is VERY confusing I say rip 'em! DRM has ruined so many an otherwise good product. That's not because I want to pirate anything. Hunting for SACDs can be fun. I remember finding 5 Rolling Stones SACDs just sitting in a used CD bin for $5.99 per disc. Of course...
magnepan I've always experienced good service albeit haven't had to call them in 5 or so years. I've blown several ribbon tweeters and there was always someone to talk to and they shipped them out quickly.
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH HATE FOR THE HIGH END GEAR ON AUDIO GEAR? It’s not the gear. It’s the people who think they are special, or have a special right to be right, because they have such gear, that draws the ire.
At what price is one considered an Audiophile. I think audiophile has a pejorative connotation due to being viewed as snobby. I'm a music fan and a gearhead. I've been that since I had a $100 Sanyo all-in-one system in 1975.
I Am Not an Audio Snob Snob is in the attitude not the knowledge or the hobby. I see it most here when (1) someone is telling another that their system isn't resolving enough or that it needs to be upgraded to meet their projected requirements (or worse, to win some a...
Warm vs Revealing—the struggle for balance Before determining speakers are too warm, too bright, too something...toe in, toe out.
Bacch Dsp, True stereo? Honest and not critical question: how does this not undo the intentions of the recording engineers?
I am streaming , how can I play music when provider goes down. Audioman: if you are referring to your internet service, its going down should not keep you from accessing local files. What you are seeing is that Roon stops working when the Internet is down. What you need is a Roon alternative that plays loc...
Bought a system without auditioning, thoughts? Hard to imagine it will sound bad. But you have set yourself up for a lot of post-purchase tweaks and swaps so probably not the most cost efficient way of doing it. Nonetheless, that looks like a hell of a fun time to set up! |
