What makes One Music Server Sound Better than Another?
My plan is to continue using a reliable, well-built, server, somewhere south of $5K, Part of the point is you don't need to do that, albeit I am not criticizing the choice.  It's more of a matter of convenience if you want auto CD ripping and t...
What makes One Music Server Sound Better than Another?
"It’s about server streaming to endpoint over a network." That is exactly what I am doing, along with having optical fiber isolation of both the server and the endpoint from the network. Sorry, should have been more clear - the reason I adde...
What makes One Music Server Sound Better than Another?
OP: I don’t know exactly how those two different servers run Roon - it’s possible they’re adding some DSP or otherwise doing non--Roon-standard manipulations. But if not - same Roon version, same configuration, across a network, bit perfect is bit...
Vinyl Records - Shipping, max/min temperatures
Not something I even thought about when we moved and had the records stored by the moving company for 2 weeks.  Records were fine.  Just pack them well.
Thank Heavens For The Internet World Used/ Pre-Owned High End Audio Market!!!!
Totally!  I've acquired many a piece via Craigslist...some from Audiogon, Ebay, and Reverb...
Why do I prefer R2R over Chip based DAC's?
You need to save up for a Wadax. That is the only chip-based DAC that sounds any good,  You should write for Colbert.   My suggestions:  Mac Mini USB to DAC probably isn't optimizing the SQ.  Some aspects are theoretical but before you go and ...
He spent his life building a $1 million stereo. The real cost was unfathomable.
I suggest one can take the article at multiple layers.  The audio achievement...impressive; the family's life...somewhat tragic.  Things have got to be pretty serious to disown a son.  Perhaps it wasn't solely audio that caused that, but still, t...
Indispensable Tool!
But you work out because your body has healing ability and it grows back incrementally stronger.  I'm still waiting for hi-fi gear that will do that.  Actually I'm not since that's one step closer to Skynet.   I suppose this tool, which appears t...
Indispensable Tool!
No doubt imagination is part of scientific discovery.  Can't say otherwise!  It just ultimately has to be more than that.
Indispensable Tool!
I love how people who support edgy tweaks compare themselves to the Wright brothers or Galileo. Those people had scientific knowledge they were applying to a new or newly evolving field. They were not just trying every suggestion they got from the...
What to ask when buying used speakers?
I'm happy for the folks that can spend 2.5x the used price to avoid the risk of used gear.  I, on the other hand, have only been able to have a taste of high end audio by buying used.   Yeah, I've gotten lemon gear. But overall through the life o...
Relationship between Ethernet Switch and SQ
you fit the mold of someone who’s close-minded. Ad hominem attack...not a good way to make your point...this is what closes people's minds.
Will audio gear be ok in unheated house
I would suggest burying the equipment in the ground at least 9 feet deep.  That will also help against theft.  But don't forget to mark the spot!
Relationship between Ethernet Switch and SQ
I'm not here to troll.  But packets are packets and ethernet knows how to reassemble them. If it didn't then $%kdiow @#sedfm WE235* would happen.   The rest of this, on the network side, is audio bling, unless your streamer isn't designed well to...
*DAC
IMHO if you want pluckier guitar plucks and other sharper transients, that's probably not a DAC thing.  You can spend the thousands on the DACs that are recommended above and I doubt it will highlight transients more than your current DAC. Unless...
