Tyler Acoustics Decade D3M review
Interesting, the last two posts. I had the Linbrook monitors for some time, as well as the Harbeth SHL5's, both at the same time in the same room, and now own the Decade D2's. The Harbeth's were better than the Tyler's for softer music, and the T...
B&W 802 Matrix Series 3 - For Rock
I owned a pair in the late 90's and really enjoyed them. I second Fuqua's advice - they open up with - and need - a good amount of power. I had them in a large room paired with an McIntosh MC300 I had at the time. They did a good job playing music...
Speakers for 3K
Tyler Acoustics Linbrook monitors - you can save 1k, and they are speakers that work really well with any amplification AND are easy to place (without bass issues). They go loud without strain and sound fantastic at low levels. Very musical speake...
Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov
In terms of recording, the 1993 DG CD (Myung-Whun Chung and Orchestre de l'Opera Bastille) is really good - probably one of the best recorded CD's I own. I only bought it since they have part of it on the Burmester test CD (#3), which I really enj...
Harbeth HL5 with JF Capri / Model 102
I had the SHL-5 with the JRDG Concerto integrated amp. The combination was really good. I think there is a definite synergy between the two. Harbeth claims amplifiers are not that important with their speakers, as long as the amp provides reliable...
Ideas for separates around $1500???
I recently acquired Rotel separates for about that price new from a dealer (the recently discontinued 130 w/ch amp and the better preamp) - I am very impressed. For the money, they are very, very good. I was coming from much more expensive integr...
Harbeth SHL5 vs 40.1
Markus, please let us know what you think about the differences. I had the SHL5 and someday may want to go to the 40's. I liked the treble of the SHL5's, wondering how the 40's compare in the highs, and also wondering how the 40's do bass. I ultim...
mcintosh vs jeff rowland
I owned the MA6900, and the Concentra and Concerto. Aside from system synergy, in general I preferred the Rowlands. Quieter backgrounds, and a bit more detail perhaps. The Mac's are nice, but the Rowland seems to have a bit more musical enjoyment....
Best Used Speaker Under $4,000 w/ Respectable Lows
I recently got a pair of Tyler D2's, he sells used for about that price. Everything you are describing is there - awesome speaker. Tremendous bass, dynamic, neutral, non- fatigueing, and solid (as long as you don't mind 140 lbs!). The quality of t...
Most musical integrated amp you have heard?
To this date my favorite is the Rowland Concentra. I had the first version, not sure if the 2nd Concentra II sounded different, other than it did have more power.
Very best 5 ch amp to feed a complete PSB system
The Cary Cinema 5 is excellent, and a relatively good value also.
How Much Does Damage Affect Value?
Since most products come up often on Audiogon and many in near mint condition, trying to sell one with damage takes a lot off the original used price, figure at least 30 % but probably more like half. I recently had this problem with fedex and was...
Has anyone ever switched to Harbeth
I have not heard Dynaudios, but I understand they have excellent dynamic capability, some models better than others perhaps. I loved the Harbeth SHL5's but needed a speaker that could handle heavy music without breaking up. If that's an issue, it ...
Good stores in LA
2nd or third for Weinhardt - only dealer I've ever been to whose customer service (and appreciation) has nothing to do with price. No 'snobbery' here. While he sells everything to include mega-buck stuff, he's happy to take in even modest trades a...
Tyler Decade D2s: review
I'm awaiting delivery of a pair of D2's after quite a while of loving my LSS. Question is, so many of you have taken delivery of the new Decade line and posted here a couple months ago. After this time, what are your impressions? Thanks.
