Static Build Up On Record Surface
Before you drive yourself crazy with grounding straps, holding on to a ground wire and putting down different flooring, try the Zerostat as was recommended previously. Cheap, painless and relatively inexpensive. The 1 1/2 revolutions on the vacuum ...
Static Build Up On Record Surface
Confirming 4Yanks and Nrchy comments. Also, the 16.5's owner's manual cautions the user about static buildup if the record is over-vacuumed. I recall the manual indicating that more than two revs may cause static.RegardsJim
Converting to Analog
David- Geez, you're even more obsessive than me!! Yes, I'd concur that cleaning jackets is real work- certainly alot more work than I'm willing to put in! You're going to give us vinyl junkies a bad rep. ;) (Yeah, like we don't already deserve it....
Converting to Analog
I'll second David99's comments, but I don't consider it "work". A few extra seconds to sweep a record and stylus before playing and a few minutes here and there for regular maintenance. Initial set-up is not a big deal- just relax and spend a coup...
Differences between MM or MC/Recommendations?
Fletchi- Another thing that TWL said that makes alot of practical sense is "the execution of design and the system compatibility may be more important than specs or theory". The numbers that a marketing department puts on a literature sheet doesn'...
New Analog system. where to start?
Capitol idea, Gumby. Anytime a product has the word "marine" on it, the price is double or triple. How about we call ourselves the "Marine Audiophile Equipment Corp"? Your marine version of the LP12 (complete with gimbaled macrame hanging ceiling ...
Analog Expert, please help me
You may contact the manufacturer for the effective mass specs as well as asking them of their experience with the Colibri or similar cartridges. Click on "Manufacturer's Listing" just about "Discussion" on 'Gons front page for manufacturer contact...
Suggestions for my first turntable?
Bradz- There is alot of value in carefully purchasing a used table but, if you go that route, be sure that it is shipped only in the original packaging. Many folks are reluctant to buy a used cartridge, though as it is difficult to verify the age ...
cartidge recommendations needed
TWL makes a good point about choosing a high compliance cartridge. Keep in mind that a high output MC will match your phono pre equally as well as a MM. Including MC's in your search might open up some additional options. RegardsJim
What turntable for 1000
I'll second Asa's recommendation on the Well-Tempered, although there are many fine tables out there that could be had in you price range. There is one fundamental difference that you will need to consider- suspended or unsuspended. Personally, I ...
What turntable for 1000
Ilusha- A couple of questions- Are you looking for new or used? Many don't mind a used table, but alot of folks prefer a new cartridge. To what kind of music do you primarily listen? Are you restricted to a high or low output cartridge?Jim
ROOM SIZE QUESTION
Thanks, everyone, for your input. I elected to not get this particular home for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the room in question was not really adequate. To Lthkeepr's comments about the suitability of the equipment for HT, I r...
New Analog system. where to start?
Gumby- The 12" woofers on the stern is a great idea. If you have room, have you considered some old 15" Altecs? (With the cavernous hull, bass response would be as God intended.) Just remember to use some good sealant as you may catch a stern wave...
Good MM cartridge - any ideas?
Ligi- I wasn't clear in my previous post- the series of cartridges that the LO.4 is in has a model that is at least 2 mV (I don't recall the exact output) which would easily drive your phono pre. Benz and other manufacturers make series of MC cart...
Good MM cartridge - any ideas?
Ligi- Any thought of going to a high output MC? Benz makes the 0.4 with as much as 2.0 mV output. Also, the Aurum MM line that David99 suggests might be worth looking into as well, although I get the impression that they are a little "pricy" in th...
