Ebay auctions referenced at AudiogoN?
I don't mind the "see Ebay listing" ads, sure beats the ads with the infamous "sale pending". Pet peeve...
What do you do when the kids come along?
I have three kids, now 8, 10, 12. I've never "childproofed" my stereo or my house. Teach them not to touch what isn't theirs, that way you can take them to friend's houses etc without having to worry they'll trash the place. I don't have a dedicat...
Can you help or do I have to get divorced?
I'm a golf nut (9 handicap and don't care to work day in and day out to get any lower), a hockey nut, and an audio nut. Anyway, you're jammed so I'd go along with the B&W LM1's or the Gallo speakers. Wall mounted, small, unobtrusive. I own bot...
Preamp-phonostage selection for analog lover
Barbara, in order to narrow down the many many choices in your price range it would be helpful to know what kind of music you listen to and whether a remote control is important to you. Off the top of my head, the Audio Research SP9 MkIII is a gre...
BEST Speakers for the BANG around 2K
Martin Logan ReQuest would be my pick, but it really depends on the kind of music you listen to (planars don't do heavy metal well).
Inexpensive Amp and Speakers
NAD3020 is legendary and can be had for around $150. Check out Ebay for a Proton receiver, excellent tuning section and a reliable product at around $175. Don't get hung up on specs, I'm certain any of the suggestions posted is more than adequate ...
Linn Classic--Any Alternatives?
I'd lean towards something like a Proton clock radio for a kitchen. Surprising sound for a clock radio. I owned a NAD L40, sold it and picked up a Classik. The two aren't in the same league at all FWIW
A question I'm sure you've never heard before....
Welcome to the 'Gon! I noticed an Audio Research SP9 for sale here today, it does have a very good phono stage. It does NOT have a remote control, if that's important to you then perhaps you ought to consider another preamp, perhaps a CJ? Assuming...
Fair market value of a turntable/arm/cartidge?
Thanks for the inputs all. Why would I sell my front end? Mostly because I started my own business and haven't drawn a paycheck in a year. I'd only sell the set up if I could get a fair buck for it, if it's worth only $1000 I'll hold on to my baby...
Fair market value of a turntable/arm/cartidge?
Thanks for posting..not sure where you dug up the info but I do thank you. Maybe I'm fundamentally lazy, but I would prefer to buy a 'table with the arm and then consider changing the pickup if/as required. Shipping a set-up like this most be one ...
Am I the only one?
I had an item for sale recently, one gent was quite interested. After several emails back and forth, he told me he was making a commitment to buy and asked me to delete my ad. The money order would be sent off within a few days. Since he was the f...
Integrated amps, need some help
Nuthin' wrong with NAD stuff, terrific value. If you'd like a tuning section as well, the NAD7100 Reference receiver (my first pick) or the NAD7250PE would be great choices. The 7100 would likely sell for around $250, the 7250PE around $175. If yo...
Problems with proposed transactions?
I've never bought or sold anything that was misrepresented; I've always received the item as described and if anything the condition was better than advertised. 'Philes are fussy and tend to baby their toys, it's rare you'll see stuff banged up. T...
Replacing TT with CD
If I could trade my Oracle Delphi IV/SME/Grado/Lehmann for an Oracle CDP and not feel like I've lost out, I'd do it.
How long do you keep a component?
Turntable: 12 years. Speakers: 10 years. Everything else...less than a year. Shortest time I owned something and got rid of it: 3 weeks. I'm a packrat and more often than not keep stuff to use in yet another system. Bizarre behavior, I agree.
