Has anyone tried the Maple Audio Works cables? I own Ambiance as well, give yours a bit of time to break in and then you'll really hear what these cables are capable of. You're absolutely right, these cables are MUCH better than they cost and you'd have to spend a lot more money to move up the...
Opinions on the Bose 901 *bites his tongue, hard*
Best cheap NOS tubes:GE, Phillips and Sylvania http://www.thetubestore.com/They're in Ontario, no hassles
MOST tubelike solid state amp A vote for Balanced Audio Technology, they make wonderful tube stuff, and the VK500 solid state amp is quite warm and lush as well.
Honest dealer in Canada Sherod: I have the same interconnects! Awesome wire eh? And I also highly recommend Omer, one of the real nice guys in the biz. Jeff
What is your most anal audio habit? I very carefully clean my ears wirh moistened Q-Tips daily. Under the assumption that dirt gets in your ears and veils the sound a bit; it may be a little obsessive but costs nothing and can't hurt if you're careful.
Cardas replacement cord for Sennheiser HD-600 "whored on the 'net". Since when does demand and supply dictating market price equate to prostitution? I sense a bricks and mortar dealer with a bad case of sour grapes is griping here.
Honest dealer in Canada I have dealt with many honest dealers in Canada, as I'm sure my American friends deal with reputable and trustworthy dealers in their markets. If you can narrow down the brands you're interested in, I can recommend a few. Jeff
Cardas replacement cord for Sennheiser HD-600 Thanks for the post..I have to wonder though. The 600's sell here on the 'Gon for $239 all the time, is it reasonable to spend $150 on the cord? I love my 600's but could really only see myself changing the cord if it was ~$75 max. Seems to me $15...
Best Blues Rock recommendations? Robert Cray "Strong Persuader" is a great album, a must have. Much of Jeff Healey's music is quite bluesy, and of course the venerable Downchild Blues Band can't be overlooked. Early Fleetwood Mac is very blues oriented (if you can find their live...
What is the most decadent, most self indulgent-- Craig, you're absolutely right about LOTS of gear but in my own twisted way I can almost justify having so many set-ups. It's not self indulgent to have a tubed CDP in a garage system is it? Lot of relective surfaces in a garage, a man needs tubes...
What is the most decadent, most self indulgent-- Vinyl...LP's of all sorts, cost be damned. Multiple copies of "rare" LP's, I'm awash in vinyl. I love it, but truth be told I coulda bought the Porsche I lust with the money I spent on analog tunes. No regrets

Tube for BAT Pre-amp Goone, the VK30 is a somewhat laid back, warm sounding preamp. I'd suggest you use it for about a week and see if it breaks in to your tastes. If you still don't like the presentation you can swap power cords (I like Synergistic AC Master Coupler ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive? I drive a 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo and a 2001 Acura 3.2 CL Type S. What would I like to own some day... a Porsche 911 |
