Wiring an Isolation Transformer
NO IT WILL NOT.Yes it will! You must treat the output rating the same as if it was configured with the two windings in series.
Wiring an Isolation Transformer
But some suggest this cuts the power in half, some suggest it doesn’t. Here is an example I found of balanced wiring:Wired balanced will cut the VA rating in half.....Wire the transformer 120V in 120V out.Parallel the two secondary windings togeth...
Transformer--Subpanel Wiring
My understanding is that if I'm needing 20 amps on a circuit, then I will need a 20 amp breaker at the subpanel, because a 15 amp breaker would trip. And a circuit protected by a 20 amp breaker would require #12AWG or larger, because 20 amps woul...
Transformer--Subpanel Wiring
If I understand you correctly there will be three wires running from the secondary winding to the isolated main panel. One leg will be the hot at 120V to feed the breakers. The second (center-tap?) will go to the neutral bar. The third at the othe...
Transformer--Subpanel Wiring
Ngjockey,Just so Iabirder understands the max a 5 KVA xfmr can be loaded is 41.67 amps @ 120V (5000 va). Technically the continuous connected load @ 120V = 80% of 41.67 amps = 33.3 amps (3996 va). Most would not use the 80% rule for calculating the...
Transformer--Subpanel Wiring
I've seen recommendations for a minimum 60amp breaker at the main panel to protect what is going to the sub. 1)How do I know what amperage is available to lend the sub? 2)If I can use a 60amp breaker does this mean that I can't exceed a total of 6...
Dedicated Line ....... my system SUCKS
this dedicated line of 10 gauge wire is only 12 feet to the outlet. It seems as if a 20 amp receptacle is the highest rating for a duplex outlet - I was going to install a 30 amp breaker but not sure if I would realize its potential.Lezdam,I doubt...
dedicated power line
I'm hoping someone can tell me about romex 10ga. vs. 10ga. wire that comes from a co. called Colonial, it says 600V on the wire. 01-28-11: Phillykid Phillykid,Building wire for power, (120V up to and including 480V carries a 600 V rating. The cond...
AC Power - two circuits better than one?
Louislovesemy,Sounds good except use 20 amp breakers instead of 15 amp. Most audio grade receptacles are 20 amp. (NEMA 5-20R). Technically per NEC code a 20 amp receptacle can not be installed on a 15 amp branch circuit.
Amplifier heat depending on power cable?
2. As voltage decreases, current increases.01-23-11: HeyrazMotors yes, transformers no.... Voltage drop on the primary will cause a voltage drop on secondary proportional to the windings turns ratio.
My Oppo hums
Nonoise,Per NEC code the CATV grounding block has to connect to the main grounding electrode system of the main electrical service.
My Oppo hums
Does the Burson PI-160 use the equipment ground, third wire? If so you may have a ground loop problem. If you have a CATV or SAT cable system and it is connected to the audio system in anyway then the hum could be ground loop related.... For a test...
Dimmer switch on the same electrical line
Depends on the dimmer and it depends on the quality of the power supply in the amp. Many of the cheaper dimmers will cause DC offset voltage back out on the AC line. This DC offset will cause a toroidal power transformer to buzz louder than normal...
AC Power - two circuits better than one?
These circuits have three wires each - Hot, Neutral and Ground.12-18-10: PuertoPuerto,If that is the case then you have 4 dedicated circuits.....Each circuit has its own hot, neutral, and equipment ground. Each of the (4) duplex receptacle has its ...
AC Power - two circuits better than one?
I took the advice of Jea48 and switched the wires on one pair of breakers in the main panel box and that action put all of my equipment on one leg of the incoming power.12-17-10:Puerto Puerto, Not sure exactly what you did..... With a 3 wire multi...
