Chasing 60 hz hum
I've never been able to figure out how to navigate through long threads at AA in an efficient non-confusing manner :-),11-09-11: AlmargLOL..... That's why it's called the Asylum....Try this, it might be a little easier....http://www.audioasylum.co...
Chasing 60 hz hum
Al,Here is an interesting post that ran over on AA.Note the responses of the equipment manufactures.Plain and simple good sounding equipment can be built without the need of an equipment ground if the manufacture would only spend a few extra bucks...
Balanced vs standard power
Thanks for the help, guys. Jea48, even if I did that it can't be maintained with a three prong connector. Yeah, the best solution would be to pack them off and have them rewired to play together. I hate shipping them as one already has chassis dam...
Balanced vs standard power
See the second paragraph of page 2 of this Jensen paper. A key factor in how much hum reduction would result is the stray capacitance within each component between each of the two ac input lines and chassis, particularly stray capacitance in the p...
Balanced vs standard power
Dan_edJust curious have you ever checked the two amps for the proper AC polarity orientation?http://www.boundforsound.com/tweak.htmGround loop hum. http://www.jensen-transformers.com/an/an004.pdf

Use Battery Backup For Preamp and TT?
Most cheap battery back up units, when in the inverter mode, put out a square wave not a true sine wave.Square wave sucks.....A "True UPS" will put out a true sine wave. They are costly though....Found this doing a search on Googlehttp://www.jkova...
Balanced vs standard power
I'm curious about how incoming line harmonics would compare between a system with electronic tap switchers vs a sola system, maybe not an issue unless the o.p. went with multiple smaller units that could potentially be 'talking' to each other or h...
Need to use my 220v preamp in 240v.
You will need to use a transformer. Two choices, you can use a cheaper autotransformer or an isolation transformer.Step down the voltage at the existing wall outlet from the nominal 240V to 220V.If you are thinking about using the existing 240V ci...
Help using integrated as power amp
Whats wrong with the preamp in the Arcam? If it is the tuner section section in the receiver you wish to still use from the receiver, use the tape output of the receiver connected to a line input of the Arcam.
New Ground Loop - What Could Have Caused?
Nglazer,I ran across this..... http://www.electrical-forensics.com/Open-Neutral/Open-Neutral.html
System Hum Question
However, when I disconnect the inputs from the preamplifier (and leave the other end connected to the amplifier), the noise in my speakers gets louder. Why is this?No doubt.... Don't do that. Having the ICs connected to the amp but not connected t...
disc player/transport longevity
I bought a Denon DCD 1500 CD player in 1988. My daughter still uses it to this day. It has never been serviced.I am still using an Arcam Alpha 9 I bought in 1999.
New Ground Loop - What Could Have Caused?
It was the Verizon FIOS box. Once I disconnected IC's running from FIOS box to pre, problem solved. No music stations through stereo, though.08-29-11: NglazerNglazer,Is it? Or is it actually caused by a difference of potential between the shield s...
New Ground Loop - What Could Have Caused?
Nglazer,Somewhere outside your house there should be a grounding block for the Verizon FIOS incoming cable before it enters your house. The ground wire that connects to the ground block is supposed to connect to the main grounding electrode system...
