Help Diagnose Tube Preamp Problem
Both channels are affected. Skf3636,Both channels?...... Have a feeling it is something in the power supply. Could be a loose connection. Maybe a cold solder joint.
Help Diagnose Tube Preamp Problem
Skf3636,Both channels or only in one? Could be a dirty and or corroded tube socket/s or tube pins.Quick method of cleaning is to unplug and reinsert tube/s in socket several time to clean the pins and socket contacts....
Power line question
Actusreus,Thanks for the additional information....Jim
Power line question
It appears the lights in the apartment (judging from the list, this includes the power outlets), have a circuit with two separate breakers, each stating 15 on them. Does this mean there are actually two circuits of 15 amps each?03-07-11: Actusreu...
Power line question
Actusreus,Easy as PIE....P = I x Ep = power, watts, Va.I = current, amps.E = voltsTo find (I) divide (P) by (E).A 15 amp circuit should not be loaded more than 80% continuous load. 12 amps.... Or 1440 watts/Va....
Tube Basics 101: What is a rectifier tube for?

Power cable shutting amp down
I just put in a JPS Power AC+ and it seems to be overheating the amp.Overheating where? At the IEC connection? Connect the JPS pc back to the amp turn on the amp and play some dynamic music at a moderate to loud level.Occasionally put your fingers...
Ground loop b/w amp and phono stage
If I do not connect the ground wire to the phono stage, the sound is reduced but it is still there. Any more ideas?Ssayeed, Did you try to connect the ground to the chassis of the integrated amp? Maybe a screw on the bottom of the amp.Have you che...
Ground loop b/w amp and phono stage
I ended up borrowing an Aesthetix Rhea and the problem persisted. Any ideas?02-16-11: SsayeedTry another set of line input jacks on the integrated amp.Try another pair of ICs from the phono preamp to the integrated amp. Make sure the plugs are sea...
Ground loop b/w amp and phono stage
Ssayeed,By chance did you try lifting the signal ground from the amp's chassis with the toggle ground lift switch on the back panel?http://www.stereomojo.com/Ayon%20Triton%20Integarted%20Amp%20Review/AyonTritonIntegratedTubeAmpReview.htm
Ground loop b/w amp and phono stage
, if I do that, there is no sound. No buzz you mean? Complete silence? I tried an rca cable plugged into the input section of the phono stage though (Kent at Pass Labs asked me to this) and the buzz returned. An open ended patch cord connected to t...
Wiring an Isolation Transformer
BTW I'm still curious how it is less isolated wired as 120-120.Did you take the time and read the Bryston link I provided? They recommend running the primary in balanced mode, 120/240V (120V 0 120V), instead of single ended 120V in. As for recomme...
Wiring an Isolation Transformer
Also, is there a definitive asnwer out there about balanced halfing the VA rating?Let me take a stab at it again....First a power transformer is designed to operate at its rated nominal voltage and frequency. The size of wire used is directly pro...
Ground loop b/w amp and phono stage
But when I used the CD player, there is no buzz at all. It's only there on the input which the phono is connected to.Not a ground loop jmho.... Do you have the TT grounded to the phono preamp? What happens if you disconnect the TT from the preamp a...
Wiring an Isolation Transformer
120V in 120V out will not yield all that much isolation. Better to wire the xfrm 240V in, single ended 120V out.Series the primary windings, parallel the secondary windings. One paralleled leg of the secondary must be connected to earth ground maki...
