Did I blow my tube amp?
One of the youtube video had a Manley Stingray connected to power, no input signal, and NO speakers connected. Not sure why the guy did that......Manual does not say to do it that way. I did the same. After the biasing is done, I connected the spe...
3 preamps with transformer hum, DC on the line?
The power amp consumes 850 watts. Would the one you found be powerful enough for both the preamp and amp?04-05-12: SbrownnwNo...... For a power amp that consumes 850 watts I would not want to use an xfmr rated any smaller than 2.5KVA, 2500Va / wat...
3 preamps with transformer hum, DC on the line?
.... a business park or two down the road and a retail strip mall village at the entrance of the development. 04-05-12: SbrownnwI would think the businesses would have to be fed from the same utility transformer as your house. Down the road they a...
3 preamps with transformer hum, DC on the line?
When you pulled the top cover off the preamp did you notice the power transformer? I assume it is a toroidal. Correct?Have you noticed the mechanical hum being louder or quieter during different times of the day?Try the preamp late at night.... Af...
3 preamps with transformer hum, DC on the line?
DC on an AC power line is highly unlikely unless you live in the third world.04-04-12: Dhl93449Not true. You can easily check this with a DVM. Just set it to DC volts and put it across the line.04-04-12: Dhl93449Not true. Are the transformers overh...

Tube biasing question please
Soniqmike,Just guessing tubes "A" probably were in the amp a few years and bias was reset a few times.Tubes "B" low hours and probably would test like new.It is a good idea when ever replacing power tubes, that have a fair amount of hours on them,...

The hum remains even if the ICs are disconnected from the amp.GrimaceGrimace,I agree with everything Al said.I would add if the sound heard is truly a hum the problem could be a bad electrolytic cap/s in the power supply. An oscilloscope connected ...
Dedicated Line for my home theatre newbie
I did watch him install the wire and did notice when he went to hook up the wires to the panels he seemed to remove a lot of the yellow sheilding to allow for the copper ground to be hooked up.The outer yellow jacket is not a shield. It is just an...
Help on Electronic Problem
Unfortunately, a gas fitter is usually not equipped or experienced with electrical noise issues affecting audio gear. Really not an electrician's realm either. 03-23-12: NgjockeyAs a rule plumbers do not install fireplaces, a sheet metal worker do...
Dedicated Line for my home theatre newbie
I was thinking of Romex 10/2 wire but the electrician is saying that is too big for my panel and he suggests 12/2. Does this sound right?LOL, that's funny, LOL..... Too big for the panel.I would have at least 2 dedicated branch circuit lines insta...
Help on Electronic Problem
When it is about to have the fan go on, the static starts... often the static stops once the fan is on (though, not always).Sounds like the fan is controlled by a thermostat. Automatically turns on and off?I still think it is a faulty wiring issue...
Help on Electronic Problem
I would guess the fan motor is a Shaded Pole type motor. As a rule this type of motor would not cause the problem the OP is experiencing. At this point the OP needs to contribute more information......
