Has Anyone Ever Run TWO Identical Pairs of Speakers ? I had two pair of Magnepan MG-1s back in the late 70's. This was before I understood about imaging. The two pair could play a bit louder with a bit more bass energy, but otherwise I think a single pair sounded better.
Cheap Audio Cables Thanks for making this effort. I think many people will find this helpful. Would you be willing to share the products you tested that you felt were not good enough to be considered?
Nucleus vs Nucleus plus - sonic diff? That's not true. The Nucleus+ has more compute power for handling a very large library, more simultaneously-playing zones, and/or complex DSP functions such as convolutions.
Should Class A Amps be left on?? A class A amp has a pretty high steady state current load on the power supply, so the caps have a fair amount of current flowing in and out all the time when the unit is powered up. I think this puts a lot more stress on the caps than a couple of ...
Open Baffle Opinions - I Won't go back to Boxed Speakers Evr Again (maybe....) @bdp24 , @atmasphere - I have also found that moving the speakers further into the room and adding some diffusion behind the speakers helps a lot with the imaging and soundstage. I have two 2x4' GIK panels with diffusor plates behind each speaker ...
Open Baffle Opinions - I Won't go back to Boxed Speakers Evr Again (maybe....) Just noticed that autocorrect changed "wing" to "wrong" in my post. Meant side wing on the inside side of the speakers.
Open Baffle Opinions - I Won't go back to Boxed Speakers Evr Again (maybe....) Hmm... I've only my GR-Research NX-Oticas in one room (my current room) but the center image is quite good. One thing that is different in Danny Ritchie's OB designs is that he uses a side wrong on the side of the speaker toward the center. This r...
Mola Mola Tambaqui or Denafrips Terminator Plus? @luisma31 - I don't think 73max compared the Terminator II with the Terminator Plus but I could be wrong. The Terminator II has barely begun shipping, and 73max did not mention the Terminator II. I had a Terminator and purchased a Terminator Plus....
Where is the weakest link? I think speaker cables can have the most influence on the sound of the system. Speakers are a very complex load with impedance that varies considerably over the frequency range. A quality speaker cable that is a good match with your system can mak...
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect? If it’s only one input that is not working, it's probably a bad relay or broken wire, and fairly inexpensive to fix. If the preamp will work for you without that input, then it’s a great preamp for the price. You might be able to get another coupl...
Heat from amps? The X250.8 is a class AB amp with a fair amount of bias current. The idle power dissipation is 450w. With higher efficiency speakers, you probably will be in class A bias most of the time, so power dissipation isn't going to be that much higher th...
XLR cables, worth buying higher end? AES48 dictates which pins are used for what, how shields are used, and how grounding is connected, and assumes a fully balanced source signal and differential or transformer-coupled input. All good things for sure, and critical for achieving the c...
XLR cables, worth buying higher end? I have tried a number of balanced cables and every one sounds a bit different, particularly for longer runs. I have 25ft cables between my preamp and monoblock power amps, and the difference between cables is more noticeable. I have found that wit...
Has Anybody Else Heard These? I have a pair of Totem Mani-2 stand-mount monitors which I have owned for many years. Totem seems to know how to extract pretty amazing bass out of a small enclosure. My little Mani-2s play down to 30Hz with authority. Downside is that they suck p...
Why Do So Many Audiophiles Reject Blind Testing Of Audio Components? The only changes in my system that I've been able to detect "instantly" are changes in volume (of at least 1/2 db) and fairly significant changes in tone. But my system is good enough at this point that it's pretty rare I introduce something new t... |
