Record is noisier after cleaning:
only clean a record when it really needs it, and a manual cleaning works just fine. any type of record 'juice' should be a last resort. 
Heaver grade vinyl vs Standard
thickness doesn't matter, but if the cost of old or new records freaks you out, don't get a turntable...or at least don't spend too much on one

of the one's you've mentioned, the sonata will be the noticable improvement. i would however recommend the Audio Technica 150x....a proverbial giant killer.

ok i just compared(even though I hate to play the rare copies) an original uk version of LZ2(plum), with an original u.s., and the classic records re-issue....side one on each. the classic has pops and ticks, but overall sounds beefier, but a litt...

the cd's i'm refering to are the japanese re-issues. i agree, the first generation us discs are poor.

here's a thought. find a nice pair of large walnut advents. they sound incredible, look great(in a retro kinda way), and are truly classic, even by today's standards.

i have been a yardbirds, zep fan since 1966..I have multiple copies of all the albums(at least 5 of each.a few still sealed.....pressings from the uk, japan, u.s.,etc. cd's as well....and 45's. if the new tracks on the remastered mothership are a ...

since none of the zepplin albums are spectacular(in a purist audiophile sense), you may be disappointed to find the original pressings are nothing to write home about either. the music on the lp's however is 'lightning in a bottle'. the entire cat...

not that the abbys are ideal, but classical music(orchestra) is best with the grunt of a push/pull amplifier. try one before you spend any money on anything.
