Choose between McIntosh MA9000 used vs MA8950 new @kennymacc i agree, sometimes it takes a while to find the right component in the used market.
Choose between McIntosh MA9000 used vs MA8950 new I bought a lot of my system used (speakers, integrated amp, and ddc). Buying used has served me well and it’s great but only If I buy the right component. The OP mentioned that the MA9000 was in fine condition except cosmetics, that would be a r...
Choose between McIntosh MA9000 used vs MA8950 new Having lived happily with an MA8900 for the last 3 years I would buy the new 8950. 200 watts, plenty of headroom, better DAC (which may be irrelevant if you have an external one but the DA2 is pretty solid). The MA9000 is very nice but you don’t...
Streamer, Dac,with Pre Amp Separates are more versatile but some want the convenience of all in one. I also think separates are the way to go but it’s a personal choice.
Streamer, Dac,with Pre Amp Not sure what your budget is but assuming at least the $2k for the Eversolo you can look at Innuos, Aurender, Lumin, HiFi Rose, and Bluesound. Not sure if Eversolo has a streamer DAC combo without preamp.
Streamer, Dac,with Pre Amp I wouldn’t take that review as gospel, you’d need to hook it up before knowing. What preamp was it used with in the review?
Streamer, Dac,with Pre Amp @soix that was my first thought as well. But if you already have the integrated why not use that and just take advantage of the things the eversolo has that the Yamaha doesn’t (i.e. streaming). That’s an awfully nice integrated that you’re leavi...
What's Up With Jane's Addiction? One of my top three all time favorite bands, but the magic is gone and I don’t really care what sort of train wreck they are now. It’s mostly Perry Farrells vocals that are a shadow of what was once one of the most iconic voices in rock, imho. J...
Best streamer, don't want Roon, don't want a screen, A DAC is OK but not necessary Have to agree after listening to a WIIM Pro. Good software but the sound quality was not as good as my MacBook Pro. Had it for a day and gave it to my nephew. It has good sound quality and is very good value for the money but certainly not comp...
Are REL the most Musical Subs? @limomangus i disagree that you only need one sub. Two makes a dramatic difference in the soundstage depth and width. I have a small listening room, maybe coat room of Radio City Music Hall size 😀, and adding a second sub had substantial positiv...
YouTube Indicates What the Future is For Audiophiles - Interesting Demographics. I don’t know that anecdotal evidence from one video about a 30 year old vintage amplifier can give any indication of the future of this hobby. It’s already been pointed out several times, in this discussion, that the age ranges for those with dis...
External crossovers for subs @james633 the subs have an adjustable low pass filter/crossover so it seems like all the filters needed are already there and using an external crossover isn’t necessary for proper integration. Unless I misunderstood your post.
Use of Denafrips Iris 12th DDC with computer I’m going to contradict myself some relative to my last post. I think the DDC is a good upgrade especially if you use a laptop to stream. Many here state that computer audio pales in comparison to a good streamer, not necessarily expensive just ...
Use of Denafrips Iris 12th DDC with computer I agree with @soix @fuzztone that the best solution would be to get a good streamer. I've not done that due to being addicted to the interface for both Tidal and Qobuz via MacBook. I had a WIIM Pro streamer for a day but my laptop into the D...
Use of Denafrips Iris 12th DDC with computer I stream from a laptop via USB to a Hermes DDC running I2S into a Pontus II 12th DAC. I ran the Pontus by itself for an awhile. Adding the Hermes was worth the cost imho. I purchased it used as well, from TMR, so I figured it was worth the expense... |
