MM or MI Cartridge? Soundsmith makes a strain-gauge cartridge. This type does not use an RIAA network/phono stage. It does the equalization mechanically. It can drive a line stage - eliminating the phono stage. I listened to the Panasonic strain gauge at a friend's h...
MM or MI Cartridge? I remain an mc cartridge fan and user because no mm or mi type I have tried can equal the "liveliness" and detail retrieval of a good mc cartridge. Even the lowly Denon 103 is capable of astonishing sound quality! Why don't you consider an upper-t...
MM or MI Cartridge? Way back in the Days of Yore (late 70's) I had to choose between two cartridges - an MC and an MI type. The GAS Sleeping Beauty and the Grado Signature One. Both cost the same - $240. I went with the Sleeping Beauty mc cartridge - though I had to ...
MM or MI Cartridge? The Grado is a safe bet! You will have to buy it and try it in your own system. Too many variables in other users’ systems to depend upon anecdotal opinions. Cartridges, like speakers, vary widely in sound quality. What pleases someone else may no...
Qs about Grace F-9 U cartridge All the Japanese sellers want around $500. I recommend buying the F9E from "meapc" !
Qs about Grace F-9 U cartridge There is a Grace F9E for $350 + $10 shipping from eBay seller "meapc" in Los Alamos, NM. This is a very good buy!
Watt Puppy DIY advise I am glad you like them! Leave the drivers alone. Dick Olsher voiced them with those x-overs. Other drivers will just screw up the sound! The most important thing for the DO Puppies is feeding them with enough clean amp power! 200wpc minimum for ...
Heresy IV vs Zu DW6/Soul mk2 Get a good push-pull tube amp like a Dynaco ST70 to use with the Zu’s - I have one. Forget SET tube amps. None of them have enough oomph/watts to work well playing Rock - unlike the ST70’s nearly 40wpc!
Heresy IV vs Zu DW6/Soul mk2 Zu all the way! Those Heresy's are an outdated long-in-the-tooth design. I was happy to sell mine! Let the stone-throwing by the Klipsch fanatics begin!
Qs about Grace F-9 U cartridge Yes, the Grace F9 is an excellent mm cartridge! The aluminum cantilever type is fine. The price is OK ($500). Let me go take a look on the eBay Japan sellers' sites. I might find you one for less!
Recommended cartridge under $2k for a Yamaha PX2 tangential turntable I have similar equipment in addition to the Mitsubishi linear-tracker and Denon 103R. Two GAS Sons and a Thoebe preamp. Two pairs of Quad 57's and a pair of KLH Nine ESL's. No streaming yet but I have a new tablet that can probably do that.
Recommended cartridge under $2k for a Yamaha PX2 tangential turntable I would look for a better phono stage that can handle a low-output mc cartridge. For the least cost a Schiit Mani 2 ($150) can compete with way more expensive phono stages.
Recommended cartridge under $2k for a Yamaha PX2 tangential turntable Your Yamaha linear-track is an excellent TT. I have a similar TT in my collection - a Mitsubishi/Diatone. No need for you to change to a different TT!
Recommended cartridge under $2k for a Yamaha PX2 tangential turntable Your Hana EH is a high-output moving coil with an elliptical stylus. The Umami is a more refined design with a superior stylus - a fine-line with a wider contact area for better detail retrieval and less wear.
Mark Levinson Repairs Most any electronic component that hasn't been run over by a truck can be repaired. The problem is finding a competent tech that is willing to do the work. Shame on ML for such shoddy response! That wasn't the attitude of the original company! |
