Willsenton R8 gets muddy When Too Much Sub Bass is Present
@dekay : Nothing wrong with using the Pioneer SC-85 as a preamp!

The R8 also has a much higher output impedance than the X2. The higher the output impedance the lower the damping factor and the ability to control the motion of a big woofer like in the Heresy.

Output transformer cores are rated for the amount of current that can be passed before saturation. That is why it has always been difficult to build high-wattage tube amps. The bigger the output transformer the lower the high frequencies it can pa...

Soon someone will chime in and say to try a different power cord. LOL!

The R8 output transformers have a lot of hysterisis distortion in the bass frequencies when they have to pass more current at higher volume. The solution is bigger output transformers with higher current rating. Those are much more expensive. You ...
Altec "Stonehenge III" speakers from 1977 - Any Good?
I have the Stonehenge II's. They certainly aren't worth $2800 - $5000 - that's nuts! I paid a few hundred for the II's. The Altec Stonehenge series are very good rock/jazz speakers. Comparable to JBL.
Harman kardon a300 rebuild
Waste of money for a boutique cap. For the power supply electrolytic caps commercial grade are fine! BTW I have a nicely restored HK A300.
Moving Magnet Phono Cartridges

Moving Magnet Phono Cartridges
Get a wood body Grado - which BTW is a moving iron (MI) cartridge with better design characteristics than MM cartridges.

KEF LS50 Meta's are a great small-room speaker.
(dons Helmet, kevlar vest and cup.) Biwiring Cornwall IVs any benefit?
Shame on speaker companies for perpetuating this malarkey!
Indispensable Tool!
Get a CD or stream Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music to give your system a good workout! Not recommended for musical enjoyment!
Need someone to look at my Dynaco 70
Could be a short in the 5 volt winding on the power transformer. The stock Dynaco power transformers are under-sized for the circuit's tube load. If so, buy a higher-rated power transformer.

Bi-amping removes the inductor and capacitor from the woofer and connects it directly to a separate amp connected to an electronic crossover.

No benefits. Bi-wiring is just a ploy to get you to buy more wire. Bi-amping using an electronic crossover and another amp to drive the woofer separately from the mid/tweeter is beneficial as it offers better control/damping of the woofer.
