Why recordings made before 1965 sound better. That and the use of an all-tube recording chain!
Not manufactured any more. @yogiboy : good choice for the DQ-10! I am lucky to have a nicely restored pair that I bought locally for $375!
Not manufactured any more. Snell Type A - I own a pair! They sold new for $1390 in 1977! What a shame for this quality you have to pay five figures today!
Has anyone heard the new Eric Alexander signature speakers the matrix LS? Like the World really needs more five-figure speakers!
How much gear do you own? I have three rooms full of audio gear and guitars! Enough to equip a store! Too much is never enough!
Integrated tube amp for quad ESL63 A pair of Dynaco Mk III's with a passive pot connected to your favorite digital source! That would be a tasty combination indeed!
Refurbished Amber Series 70 I have one in my collection of vintage gear. It is indeed an excellent amp of moderate power! The Audio Critic gave it a very favorable rating - System B. IMO it is competitive with today's four-figure gear!
More expensive = better? There are plenty of vintage amps available for less than $1K that sound as good as any of today's over-priced gear! I paid around $900 for a Perreaux 2150B - 340/680/920wpc @8/4/2 ohms. Sounds as good as any four/five figure amp!
Selling off Tubes for Solid State, A Cooler Love Story? Belles!
What is the best HEAVY METAL speaker? Altec Stonehenge 1 is a killer speaker for LOUD rock and metal! I have a pair - and prefer them over the Model 19.
You Cant Buy It but you Can Build It Bob Carver's The Cube sub was indeed 12" x12" x12" and went down to 2Ohz loud! Long excursion butyl surround and a 2000watt class D amp (the size of a chocolate bar) inside. Now that's innovative thinking! Ditto for his Amazing Speaker from 1990 -...
Soulution 725 or Robert Koda Takumi k10? Forget the 725 and the Takumi. Go for the Mayer Silver 10Y instead! What a cool triode tube from way back! Bet it sounds real sweet and musical being a DHT (Direct Heated Triode).
Ok to substitute 12AX7 for 5751 tubes in CJ Amp? @thecarpathian : thank you for catching my mistake! Brain fog setting in! I have made the correction in my above posts! Thanks!
Ok to substitute 12AX7 for 5751 tubes in CJ Amp? +1 @facten : A man who knows his tubes! I own many of those 12AU7 sub's!
Ok to substitute 12AX7 for 5751 tubes in CJ Amp? +1 @atmasphere ! Sticking to the original tubes is always best! When buying 5751’s always try to buy the 3 mica version. The 2 mica version has poorer resistance to microphonics. |
