Sony PS-X50 - MC cartridge advice please (and general MC cartridge advice) No MM cartridge can compare to a MC! The reason: too high inductance in the windings of the fixed coils. This inductance acts as a filter slowing transient response. Grados - while considered MI (moving iron) are still fixed coils. Grados solve th...
Sony PS-X50 - MC cartridge advice please (and general MC cartridge advice) The AT - OC9XML will be a significant upgrade over the ADC - QLM. Superior transient response and lower noise floor!
Understanding ohms If your Pioneer SX1980 has pre out jacks buy a good power amp and use that instead of the receiver's amp. A Crown XLS 1502 is a good recommendation (~$400).
Why do all Mahler recordings seem too bright? Listening too loud - amplifier clipping. More power needed.
What to do? I want a new amplifier to make my Dynaudio Contours to "sing" There are two Perreaux amps available now on eBay. A 2150B and a 3000B. $1290 and $650. Both are equal to any of today's four-figure amps. They are rated at 300 and 200 wpc. I own a 2150B - 340/680/920wpc@8/4/2 ohms. I chose it over a big Mark Lev...
Can one use assymetric wire gauge for speaker cable construction? Yes you can! Let's say 12 ga for one leg and 16 ga for the other. I can't think of a reason why this configuration should sound worse than symmetrical. Nor can I see any benefit. Go ahead, build it and try it out! At least its not a wacky idea li...
Bryston Preamps - What do they sound like? +1 soix! I have a Bryston .5 in my collection. Transparent to the source is a good description. A clear window on the recording. That is how a preamp should perform! A "warm" sound is not accurate!
Vintage Krell Amplifiers from the 80’s & 90’s. Leave them on all the time in the winter to keep your listening room nice and toasty!
Recommended Tonearm for Denon DP6000 Turntable in Denon DK200 Plinth Denon DA-307 arm will fit and will work well with low-compliance mc cartridges. The Denon DA-401 will work well with high compliance mm cartridges.
Tonearm for Technics SP-15 +1 chakster! The EPA-100 is an excellent arm with removable headshell. This feature will not adversely affect SQ - contrary to what mc said.

SUT Interconnects The lenght of the Verion cable off the SUT was about 12 inches. I still have six pairs of the one-meter Verion RCA cable pairs! Alas, they remain buried in storage!
SUT Interconnects My Verion - aka Cotter - Type P SUT came with a captive lenght of Verion Tri Axial cable for its outputs. IMO still one of the best SUT’s ever! I paid $375 for mine in 1978! Used with the GAS Sleeping Beauty (Coral 777) mc cartridge. Word to the w...
D’Agostino progression preamp Unless you are a high-roller you can do a lot better for less - an Audio Research Ref One or Two would be my choices!
Help, which preamp to buy from my shortlist? Best bang-for-the-buck is vintage gear! I paid $350 for the Bryston .5 from a friend! Can't beat that - along with a Bryston 3B amp for $500! |
