It was 61 years ago today... I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in ’64. I was about to have my 12th birthday on the 16th. Not only that, but I do remember seeing Elvis Presley on his first appearance on Ed Sullivan in 1957. Both times with my parents watching. B&W TV!
Raised Towers A stupid idea.
Can I get more out of my Koetsu ? Your present system is fine! Stop your neurotic worrying and enjoy what you have!
Is it heretic to do it ? Peavey 5150 De Gustibus Non Disputandum Est! I wish I still had my 1970’s Marshall Major amp! Oh well! I still have a Mesa Boogie combo amp! I also bought a Fender FM212 DSP for its built-in effects.
Do I need 10 gauge power cord if I have 10 gauge from panel? @ditusa : my apologies after seeing your big Crown amp. How many wpc at 8/4/2 ohms? My Perreaux 2150B does 340/680/920@8/4/2 ohms. I will look and see what gauge power cord is on it. Also I was wondering if the MacIntosh 1000 watt mono amps use a ...
Forgotten Licks Savoy Brown split up, with some members going on to form Foghat. Whom I saw as the opening act for Procul Harum at the Vancouver Colosseum in 1971.
6SN7 vs 12SN7 The 6 and 12 volt heater versions sound the same. You can probably pay less for the 12 volt version because they aren't as popular. Same when I needed a quad set of 12V6's for one of my tube amps. They were half the price of the 6V6's.
phono cartridge help @dogberry +1 for pointing that out about the Nagaoka cartridges being moving iron type. Certainly better than MM types that are affected by cable capacitance! I do have one Nagaoka in my collection. That was attached to a Rabco linear track arm I ...
Forgotten Licks Savoy Brown - a real cookin' band! I started listening to them in 1968 with Blue Matter. Two excellent guitarists - Kim Simmonds and Lonesome Dave Preverret. Add Chris Youlden on vocals and you have a winning formula for doin' the Blues!
phono cartridge help Back in The Days of Yore TAS rated the Grado FTE ($15) as the best buy in phono cartridges. My friend Les had one and raved about it! Grado as a business goes back to around 1960. They have always made excellent cartridges for the money at various...
Review: Denon DL 103R Cartridge I have a 103R mounted on the new Pioneer PLX1000 TT ($699). I have several SUT's on hand to try. Right now I am using the Bellari. Sounds quite fine so far! I also have the battery-powered Marcof PPA-1 head amp. It was highly rated back in the lat...
phono cartridge help Grado Prestige Series's is an easy recommendation. A positive thing about the Grado cartridges is that they are moving- iron and consequently not affected by cable capacitance.
HIFI Speaker active crossovers ... To save money! An active circuit is way more complex and costly than stringing together a bunch of caps, chokes and resistors. It requires a power supply - a part of the total cost.
Quobuz subscription I assume that the esoteric Jap jazz labels (Three Blind Mice comes to mind) ) sold nicely-mastered CDs. So the same should be available on Qobuz and Tidal. I would not want to listen to tracks digitized from an LP! Yuck!
Quobuz subscription Ah, the joys of streaming (irony!). No way of verifying the provenance of a particular track! At least with physical media - CDs and LPs - that can be easily done. 90%+ of streaming users don't care! To them it's all about convenience! The slow de... |
