Preamp: Mcintosh vs Modwright? The rectifier doesn't at all make it sound like a Conrad Johnson. I had a CJ 17LS that the Modwright replaced. That preamp had a nice seductive sound but I was amazed at how much detail was glossed over after hearing the Modwright. You're right th...
Preamp: Mcintosh vs Modwright? I may be wrong, but I doubt if it's truly a balanced output. Dan would answer that, but I thought a balanced output would be a significant change in design. Aside from that, it's a newer version or an upgraded older version because of the mute mod...
Preamp: Mcintosh vs Modwright? Yes, I do have the SWLP now. I was able to compare them directly while I had both. The tube supply really is worth it. My only slight criticism of the SWL is it could sound clinical at times. It was paired with Channel Islands D200's, which I stil...
Preamp: Mcintosh vs Modwright? I really like the Modwright. I just sold it because I wanted to get his new one with the phono stage. While it's true the 9.0SE isn't too tubish, the new tube rectification upgrade does push it that direction. The Modwright ads seemed to have tape...
Current recordings on vinyl? Regardless how it's mastered, I still find vinyl to be consistently better. I have quite a few of both versions and I usually prefer the vinyl. My SACD/CD is really good but I now will always buy vinyl over cd/sacd when given the choice.
Satellite vs. Cable You should throw Dishnetwork into the mix too. They have a decent HDTV lineup. Your local HD channels you can still get with a normal antenna or possibly from Dish. They also have decent DVR's for HD. The drawback though is they often can be buggy...
Shelter 501mk2 on a vpi superscout w/ jwm9 sig arm I believe the counterweight on the Sig arm is lighter than the one on the standard JMW 9. Works fine with the Shelter for me without the headshell weight. I also have all the upgrades including the flywheel combo. Totally satisfied and every upgra...
Class D amp driving Thiel I'm really happy with my Channel Islands D200's also. Can't comment on the Thiel's. I'm driving Vandy 3 Sigs. Pretty amazing amp. If you can, I second Getheleadout's advice.

VPI new Super Feet for Scout/Scoutmaster/Aries Hard to believe from the pics that they use the ginko ball. Is there any movement of the table using the feet? up/down or side to side at all? I wouldn't think so with the ball bearings on the bottom. There's not enough info if they are using a ba...
Has Anyone Heard the new Modwright Power Supply? There was a thread on that already here. Overwhelmingly positive by all accounts. Waiting on the new SWLP myself.
Vandersteen 2ces, McCormack 0.5 and which pre-amp I use the Modwright. Great preamp and will really bring out the best in the McCormack and Vandy's. There's some really good deals here now. (No, not selling or affiliated). I've had a few preamps and the Modwright is the keeper and best I've had o...
Trying to extract more from my Vandersteen I was using McCormack amps with my Vandy's until I tried Channel Islands D200's. Personally, I think class D amps are a good match for Vandy's. They are very revealing amps and coupled with the Vandy's darker nature for me is a good combination.I'...
Class D Amps - FM reception Channel Islands D200's are another option you might want to look into. Very nice amp that some prefer to the Nuforce.
