VPI new Super Feet for Scout/Scoutmaster/Aries
I just received the new mini feet. I've been using the Gingko Cloud 11. My hope was that the feet could replace the Gingko. Not even close.. the Gingko is much better. The feet are an improvement over the stock cones, but anyone hoping they are eq...
ModWright Phono
Yes, I forgot to mention that I have a NOS Mullard 5AR4. It really does make a nice difference. I haven't rolled any other tubes but did try the Herbie's damper on it. Didn't like it but may try experiment more with position again. I do however li...
ModWright Phono
Trust me.. it'll get a lot better. Re-reading my comment, you'd get the impression I thought the Whest was close. It's really not. The Modwright is leagues above it. The separation of instruments will expand and the tonal quality will be fuller, m...
ModWright Phono
The only phono stage that I can say I directly compared it to was the Whest 2.0 which I owned. That was in itself a really good phono that received rave reviews compared to the usual standard bearers like the Manley. The Whest had an incredibly wi...
ModWright Phono
Fantastic phono stage! I have the SWLP which has the exact same phono stage. Really improves with time opening up the soundstage. The caps take a long time to break in. Very natural presentation. No hard edges whatsoever. Really brings out the bes...
Is the Ginko Cloud 11 the best isolation for a VPI
Mechans.. dude you're posts are still there on the other thread titled exactly the same.. But to ask again, what's your source of info on the rift between Harry and Vin?
I can't find the answer, JMW 9 tone arm cartridge
VPI sells a 3gm weight. All of their retailers (elusive, musicdirect, etc) probably have them too. They're $15. You probably want it for the Shelter. Not sure about the Denon
Which would you choose- Lyra, Zyx or Benz for VPI
Count me as another JMW/Airy 3 advocate. I've got it on a JMW Sig 9" arm. Absolutely great combo and couldn't be happier.
Whose got best class D at this point?
That emotional uninvolvement was my initial reaction too. What caused that for me was the increased resolution. I was much more aware of the low level details which tended to distract me from just enjoying the music. Best way I can describe it is ...
Cartridge Man MM3 vs. ZYX R100 Fuji FS?
Also, specially take comments from a dealer with a grain of salt. Personally, I distrust their comments regarding their own products much more than enthusiastic personal opinions.
Class D amp driving Thiel
So.. I'm guessing you don't 'care a damn' how it sounds but only how it measures? Must be easy to make buying decisions for you then. Just check measurements and your done, end of story? Generalized pronouncements make me wonder if there's somethi...
Whose got best class D at this point?
I can't say which is best, not having heard any other type of class D amp, but the Channel Islands D200's totally outperformed my McCormack DNA 1 RevA Gold. Haven't looked back and they have been the most satisfying amps I've ever owned in my 30 y...
Preamp: Mcintosh vs Modwright?
I don't know exactly what changed from the first run of 50 to the next production. I know there was a muting circuit change, and a layout change probably to ease the assembly. Aside from that, I don't know of any differences that would affect the ...
Preamp: Mcintosh vs Modwright?
May not be exactly the same. Dan is using newer caps he had specially made for him, I believe. They wouldn't be in the older SWL's, but if you're sending a SWL to have the tube stage upgrade, I think he could change the caps too.I'm pretty sure he...
Trying to extract more from my Vandersteen
I have the Vandy 3 Sigs. I've had various McCormack amps on them.. 0.5, then a pair of 0.5's, then a 1 RevA Gold with every update. Then I tried a Channel Islands D200. It was like the speakers had a blanket over it the whole time and then removed...
