Help in Selecting CD Player You miight consider one of the nicer SACD, DVDA, DVD, players with a digital out and use the Benchmark DAC1 for 16/44. The Benchmark was at least as good as the Sony SCD1, at least in our initial comparisons, which is no small feat. I have great r...
Jeff Rowland Concentra II vs Gryphon Callisto 2200 The Rowland does so much right...I am still waiting to hear what it does wrong. The built in phono stage is even excellent. I sold tubes and have not gone back. Tube fans will disagree I am sure, but they should reserve comment until after they ha...
From tubes to solid state. What do you loose... You miss nothing if you get something like a Rowland Concentra II, Pass or any of the great solid state amps out there. I have heard more glare from some KT88 equipped amps than I have ever heard from my Rowland with bad CD material. The biggest f...
increase transparency for philips sacd 1000 I too have a SACD 1000. It is sensitive to cable change. I have used solid core and stranded silver interconnects. Silver is a good option to extend the top end. Also, there is a filter switch on the back which will affect the top end, especially ...
If I sell Pioneer/buy Aries, hear BIG difference? You will wonder how you put up with your Pioneer all these years. I have had Dual, AR, VPI MKII, III, IV, and now Aries JMW 10. I had a friend over who has never listened to analog at length. Thirty seconds into the first song off a MFSL George Be...
odyssey amp's how do they compare to others I have listened to these amps as recently as a week ago at a friends house. They are very good indeed. They deserve a listen by all skeptics. They are grand, grainless, open and fast. I heard them with two different speakers and they were great wi...
HELP: I need a solid state amp with a tube sound The Rowland Model 2, Concentra or Concentra II (the last two integrated) are good options. I have had numerous tube amps which were not missed once the Rowland came in here. I think that "tube" amps don't always sound like "tubes" in the historica...
which cartridge to buy? so many... The Shure is hard to beat for the money. Great tracking, neutral to slightly warm sound, great extension and replaceable styli. Jallen
VPI Aries owners I use a custom stand made from 3"x2" steel beams and sand filled. Weight is several hundred pounds on four spikes. Hitting the stand with your fist while a record is playing does not affect the sound. The Aries is on a granite slab 1" thick. Failu...
Opinion of budget phono preamps? Also consider the PS Audio PHONOLINK if you can find one. A very good sounding preamp on both MM and MC. Not the last word by any means, but sonically very respectable. Jallen
Tube pre to use with Bryston 4BST Try Cardas Neutral Reference Speaker Cables, they work very well with the Bryston and give a fuller slightly laid back sound and sound still very, well, "neutral". The Neutral Reference interconnect will also help. Jeff
Review: Jeff Rowland Design Concentra mkIIp Amplifier Dave, I too have been very impressed with my Rowland Concentra II and I have owned various tube syatems in the past. I am still waiting to find faults with the unit. I have been happy with Cardas Neutral Reference Speaker cable and interconnects. ...
Review: Jeff Rowland Design Concentra phono Amplifier Macrojack, Congratulations. I too have a Rowland Concentra and you are in for quite a treat. I have owned many pieces of gear over the years and I now have a amp/preamp I am not letting go. I am using the Nestorovic 5AS MKIV and the VPI Aries turn...
Are speaker cable connectors THAT important? I don't think that either gold or silver on the surface will make anything sound better. Another layer of metal is all that is in the way of the music. However, the gold or silver can reduce corrosion which is a plus. I prefer Rhodium over copper ... |
