tube burnout You need to try a 6922 similiar to the ones used by Audible Illusions which require a 6922 with higher output. The ones by Russian manufacturers are more rugged. The Electro Harmonics, Sovteks, are good....6H23N-EB, 6N23, should do the trick....pr...
best used VPI table? Try a wall mount turntable stand for this problem. I am a fan of the VPI, and have had the Aries/10, MKII, MKIII, MKIV, and now the Scoutmaster/9, and before, the AR ES1, and Linn LP12. The Scoutmaster has been the best so far, very agile and fast...
matching tt to music The Shure is not impressive to me. It is dull and lifeless, tracks well, but has a fragile stylus which disentegrates into powder...I have seen this twice. The Ortofon Black and the Audio Technica 150 have good things said about them. Jallen
Value of Nelson Reed I USED TO have a pair and they sold for something in 800-900 range. A great speaker, great bass, howebver, the 804/C was better with a better top end. Well built speaker though. Ultimately, whatever the market will bear.... Jallen
Thinking of upgrading speakers, any suggestions? I am not sure where the idea that maggies and dynamics are not compatable. I recommend you try Maggie 3.6's and you will be surprised by the dynamics if they are coupled with the right amp....Jeff

Quicksilver Linestage Pre-Amplifier How close are the vandys to the rear and side walls. They need to be at least 3 ft. from the rear and side walls. Also try Mullard 12AX7's in the Quickie. The opposite direction is the Phillips/Sylvania which is more vivid, leaner and a bit "hotte...
Banana plugs, Spades or a little of each? The material is more important than whether it is a spade or banana. Bananas usually sound like s--t, as does gold plating, etc. The banana spring tension goes south and the sound goes with it. Go with Cardas Rhodium and you will notice that when ...
I Have 100K for Speakers? The size and shape of your room, the type of music you listen to, and the level you listen to are more important than how much to spend. Once those are determined, go and listen to a lot of variables/speakers. I like the Maggie MG20.1, Revels, Jm ...
Preamplifier: Yes or NO ? A good preamp is a good thing if it gets out of the way of the music. The preamps I like are the Rowlands, Levinsons, Audio Research LS15, LS16, LS25, Reference line etc...all great. The Conrad Johnson pre's are also good. Try before you buy thoug...
Anyone talked to Dean from PSE? If there is anyone still reading this thread, a point to make on Dean's product is that he uses common parts where possible so repair is possible down he road, unlike some who design with rare parts ensuring a boat anchor in the future. My PSE Stu...
Yamaha MCX-1000 + Benchmark DAC-1 The Benchmark is as good as the press states it is. An open, clean, sweet wound that will have you wondering why you should pay more. Also listen to the Marantz players, they are very good. JW
Avalon Eidolon Vision What's your take? This speaker sounded great as did all the Avalon systems. This speaker company knows how to get it done. Match your speaker selection to you room size and dimensions. Jallen
Best and Worst sound at the CES Show 2004 I liked the Wilson/VTL system. There was great music being made when I was there. Some of the rooms that sounded bad were either cold gear, new gear, or poor set-up. Many rooms I went to that sounded bad were much better when I returned later for ...
From Audio Research CD2 to Benchmark:upgrade? Don't underestimate the improvement the Benchmark will provide. In balanced mode it is exceptionally good, clean and well textured with a great top end. Jallen |
