Tired of Problems with Tube Equipment I had SS equipment, and had bad capacitors, faulty relay switches, bad output transistors, and I went to tubes, and have had a few bad tubes, but less problems than with SS, and I can listen to the tubes longer. There are no service-free roads in ...
Wooden blinds vs cellular shades for acoustics I have used partially open wood blinds for years and this is a good start, but I have cellular shades over the sliding glass door and this is a better midbass/bass trap and allows for high dB listening without a standing wave. In addition, I have ...
Need dynamic DAC The Benchmark is for real and a legend already. Better requires a lot more money, like the Marantz CD player at the level of the SA11, used for about 1500.
go where after vandersteen 2ce The Vandersteens do not do well next to a wall on the side or behind. They should be at least 2-3' from the side and back wall. They must be spiked to the floor, balanced, and adjusted on the back. The dials just adjust the height of the drivers t...
Can good speakers take edge off digital? Better speakers, more transparency, the more digital flaws will be revealed. Good digital is a must or you will be begging for some digital band-aid....Analog is needed just to know a good reference for music.
go where after vandersteen 2ce I too believe the Vandy KO is unlikely. The new speakers likely have a spike that at first seems like fidelity and in time you will hear it as artifact. First impressions are often misleading. Your amp may just not be up to the task for the 2CE. T...
You know you're an audiophile if-- Your bathroom has bookshelves within arms reach of the throne littered with TAS, Stereophile, Crutchfield, AA, and the other audio mags...........
Forte Audio Threshold Model 3 or Odyssey Stratos Replace the caps with good ones like v-caps or Mundorf, or Rel Theta or RT Styrenes. I prefer the Forte 1A or model 4, in pure clss A. I tried the Odysssey and it is OK, but not tubes or Class A. Try the 1A or 4, and you might be surprised....
Best tube amp $2000-2500? Quicksilver, ARC, VAC, and the match with the speaker is more important than the amp.....
Tube-friendly speakers I have the 3.6, did have the MMG for a short time, and the 3.6 is soooooo much better from top to bottom. I used the CJ MV55 for the4 3.6 and it worked well, just don't expect it to play very loud. I used the RM9MKII by Music Reference for 125wpc ...
How good are grado cartridges Not enough compliance for my taste. Try the Audio Technica AT 150MLX, a great cartridge on the JMW arm. I use with the Scoutmaster/JMW-Nordost wiring and the resolution is impressive. On this table/arm, the AT is very impressive...fragile needle i...
best speaker wire for extra long runs The Cardas Neutral is the best choice I know of. Occasionally a friend of mine has access to used CArdas cables and once in a while, a long set show up. Jallen
Audiophiles get NO respect I am quite perplexed as to the type of man he describes. All my audiophile friends have beautiful women to sit next to when they listen to music, sip wine, and listen to music before making more music.....Perhaps GQ should stand for "General Quack...
PLEASE HELP ME. NEED ADVICE The ground loop theory is your best lead to follow. All of your components should ground at one location in the wall, and only one component with a ground plug, float everything else with a cheater plug. Be sure your AC receptacle has good spring ...
tube amp noise Hook up to a expendable pair of speakers and gently wiggle each tube and you will likely find a bad socket. The tube which swims the most is likely the bad site. Also, look for leaky capacitors, brown goo, oozing from the end. Jallen |
