balanced vs unbalanced output Sonically I agree with Stanwall, but the connectino is better with XLR connectors due to the size variation in RCA connectors. Thus, I like to use pin 1, the gnd, and pin 2(+) and avoid pin 3 (-) and connect with XLR, and avoid the problems with R...
Clarity Caps vs Kimber kaps Agreed on the Mundorf caps for crossovers. They are very good. Kimber is very mediocre, and Clarity is slightly better. The high dollar good cap is Dueland, but O so very expensive....After Mundorf, Solen is a descent speaker cap on the cheap. No ...
First Tube Amp: Advice? Keep spare tubes on hand? I always keep a working set as a back-up, and all new sets I buy, i burn them in for at lest 20 hrs. to be sure they are good. Jallen
Upgrade from Benchmark Dac? I owned the benchmark and went to the Marantz 8260, and gave up a bit more top end air and got more body and weight in the bass. Better will require the Marantz albeit, more expensive ones, like the SA15 or up one more which I think is the SA11......
anyone else hate locking RCAs? I like them for several reasons. Some female RCA's vary in size and invariably, one of them is small and the male fits loose. Thus, the locking RCA can be a way to ensure the fit is consistent. They are a pain at times, but they can work. I prefer...
Is cable synergy important? Synergy, meaning all cables being the same, is only important if your preamp, source, and amp were all wire with the same wire....and the transformer to some extent. Why have all silver wire and a copper wound transformer...there is a lot of wire ...
I Need Help Picking a Sub The james EMB 1000, 1200, 1500 are very depending on room size, the ML ones mentioned are also great, and the JL Audio, and Rels.

Audio Research Tube AMP Reliability A friend had the VT200, the tube blew, took out the resistor, but burned the board and replacement was not cheap...over 1K...I would never own one like that. Other designs of ARC seem more reliable. Jallen
With $20,000 in your hand, what speaker would you I am also a maggie owner, 3.6, my friend has the 20.1. I like the Aerial 20T as I cannot be without the ribbon on the top end. Even at CES, I failed to hear any speaker at any price with that type of top end. That is just what I find musical and r...
external crossover recommendations I have a marchand XM44 I have just about finished assembling, and will provide a sound evaluation in the next week or so. I have had the XM26, which is good with Ss, a bit too soft for tubes IMHO.The best is the Pass, no question. But the price of...
If you were a tube preamplifier manufacturer I have experimented with Mullards, Bugle Boys, and have found that a lot of hype is involved with these tubes. They can sound really spectacular in some situations, but not many. I have gotten the best sound with 12AX7, 12AU7 from Ei, and Chinese ...
Well-Tempered Golf Ball? Do listen to the VPI Scoutmaster, it is truely spectacular. I have it with the Nordost JMW9, and the sound is so beyond digital....with a good LP, music just rushes forth. A solid stand with weight is critical. The Well tempered is a good choice, ...
Well-Tempered Golf Ball? I bet the paint is "precision audiophile grade paint" and soon to an audiophile store near you...in "Masters" green. I prefer the Noodle...
Tired of Problems with Tube Equipment I have decided to stay with tubes because tubes can always get fixed. SS, maybe, maybe not. Tubes are far more simple and with P-P wiring, even more easy to repair. Even output transistors wear out. Jallen |
