Can we increase dynamics?
I've tried to use the dynamic expander in my Behringer, but have only met with very marginal success at best. Although it is in the digital domain and essentially a full-range expander (unlike the DBX which I owned back in the day and which has to...
Gold Point Passive pre-amp
I recommend you try it...might be just the thing. If the sound should still strike you as a little lean at some point, you could always investigate the possibility of reducing the length of the IC's (between the Goldpoint and the amp inputs) to ab...
Ava amps vs Monarchy amps ?
I'm using a pair of SM-70 Pro's that I like, but I don't recommend them for single-ended use...balanced yes, but not single-ended...something in the way the circuitry is set up during single-ended makes them 'overload' (DC only) a bit, less transp...
Do stands make a difference for equipment?
Himiguel: I think everything you just said is dead on and basically all of it will always be, for anyone who pursues this level of higher resolution in their system, a double-edged sword. Some will see that possibly 'never-ending' pursuit as a tim...
Do stands make a difference for equipment?
Agear: "Bravo. Someone is taking the "discipline" forward through innovation. The whole concept of self noise is integral to this discussion". I certainly agree. In general, electrical stands like these purify the DC and power conditioning purifie...
Do stands make a difference for equipment?
Oh, did I mention that for any of Alan's facebook friends, each Q-stand (what I use now, and will be buying more of soon) are only $350.00 each? Better hurry though, when Alan's new and only B&M store being built in Nashville comes online in t...
Do stands make a difference for equipment?
Agear: His stands are made with a 1/4" of proprietary material sandwiched between two 1/2" sheets of acrylic. There is a wire to be plugged into the system powerstrip, but it only actively connects to ground so no electricity is drawn from the wal...
Do stands make a difference for equipment?
My general impression of them is that on the whole they probably make a worthwhile difference, although I myself have only owned a pair of isolation platforms from Alan Maher that I finally pulled the trigger on only recently. But they've been som...
Nakamichi ZX-7 Cassette Deck - - - Dubbing Problem
What Zd542 said is all good advice, but, it could be your sensitivity control pots are dirty. In that case a good quality contact cleaner (like Caig Deoxit D5) could help cure something like that, if you can have good enough access to the pots.
New CD player sound qualities
I suppose you might consider something by Rega, if the overall presentation is not too forward for you. Less expensive than NAIM, but still very rhythmically involving and crisp sounding. Note however, that "vividness" or "vibrancy", if not confin...

What is your take on Mapleshade products
Nonoise, sorry, away from the computer for a while...great to see your having success...but, just so I'm clear on it, are you saying that, in your case, the Mapleshade powerstrip was better than the wall, or not better than the wall?? Just curious...
Elevate Floorstanders to Ear Level?
The main idea with that is to get the tweeter a bit *above* ear height. What that does is smooth out a response wrinkle in the *upper mids*, not in the HF range...it's just that the usually quoted "tweeter above ear height" refers to the fact that...
What is your take on Mapleshade products
Skoczylas, Pierre HATES redundancy in all things (after all, he worked for the government didn't he?) so if he can't redesign connectors to be more sonically streamlined then he will seek to do away with them and I would agree with him that unterm...
