No new innovations in "Audio" at upcoming CES2014? Concur with Tom, for the foreseeable future Blu-Ray Audio and Wireless systems look to be the shape of things to come. I think Blu-Ray may render DSD effectively dead. The international community has been working for some time now in an attempt to...
Does anyone know price & year JVC SEA -M770 and M9 I'd say that at least within the confines of purely frequency domain problems with the electronics (from the listening position), EQ is still entirely valid and can be very effective (if designed and executed correctly enough). And it's still at l...
5 CD Changer as transport only? I used an Onkyo DC-X390 as a transport for a few years (6-disc carousel), very reliable, good sound and usability. Coax out and direct digital path. Also used a Monarchy DIP Combo with it which smoothed out the highs and firmed up the bass.
Jimi Hendrix on PBS "American Masters" That was really good, thanks.
Looking to add warmth FWIW, I would start by holding onto your 8008 and your W4S Dac 2. Seen lots of descriptions of these pieces and "dry and uninvolving" have never cropped up. Or at least the amp wouldn't unless it happens to be some sort of mismatch for your Philha...
What is This Noise? I recall encountering this same effect many years ago. It did sound a lot like static. The weird part was that it only seemed to happen on a very few particular spots on an equally few CD's, yet there would always be no visible defect on them what...

Entreq ground conditioners - what's the theory? Atmosphere, come to think of it, I may have been wrong to include the Marigo dots, but, no, the WA Quantum chips and the Intelligent chip are 2 different things (but, as I said above, there are certainly quantum scams to be found out there). From ...
Entreq ground conditioners - what's the theory? Atmasphere: Ok, I think you're right about my poor word choice. Let me see if I can fix that. I don't think Alan is really in the business of 'manipulating' Ohm's Law (and let me say that no one would think that it's somehow mutable less than I......
Buying speakers ten or more years old a good idea? I have been using the same pair of dynamic-driver, tower speakers ever since I bought them new in 1990. There have been at least 3 considerations I've needed to deal with over the years. 1) All the drivers have rubber surrounds, but it's still bee...
Floorstanders or stand-mounted with a sub? I have 3-way towers that have twin 8" woofers in each cab that are rated 3db down at 30hz. I also have a modified Behringer DEQ2496 as my DAC which gives me parametric EQ. Lots of power conditioning in my setup has increased its bandwidth on top o...
Entreq ground conditioners - what's the theory? Agear and Atmosphere: Here's how I see it: I'm absolutely convinced there is, and has been, such a thing as bad grounding schemes in perhaps all manner of hifi gear up to now...happens all the time. But, I don't believe for a moment that alone can...
Maple Platform Question If it were me, I'd follow Mapleshade's recommendations. I'd also try removing the cups from the VPI cones and let the points have contact on the platform. Of course as you know, that's really what the platform is for - to act as a "sink" for the v...
Volume and Dynamics It's not a question I think I understand what you're getting at. In a way it's all about proper scale...being true to the original recording I mean. When all the spatial cues (volume, dynamic, harmonic, phase, tone, timing, etc) with the playback system can be made t...
Entreq ground conditioners - what's the theory? Davehrab: "... as a matter of fact in high school I was so poor in math that I thought that Calculus was Julius Caesar's hair dresser"....wait...you mean he wasn't?!? :)Jfrech: No sweat. Do give us an update at some point, I'm curious too. The 2 M... |
