Dodson DA-217 vs. Theta Pro Basic IIIa?? I own the Dodson 217 D, but without the newest mods. I understant that the new software upgrade aids midrange sweetness. I would suggest that you find a 217 with all these latest mods. If upgraded, I would guess that it would beat the Theta.
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Stop subscribing to TAS, Stereophile, etc. It would seem that the guiding philosophy of these mags is "If it's new and expensive, get rid of your old, obsolete stuff and suck up your losses, and go into debt to get the latest "fave rave". There is...
Tonality comparison: Cardas vs. Tara Labs I use Nirvana SX between my Dodson processor, and Cardas Golden Reference between my Mac C-2200 pre-amp and Conrad-Johnson Premier ll amp. This is the best combination I have found to go with my Genesis V speakers.
Do SACD player start up slower I agree with Jackcob! The loading and scanning of the 777 is just enough time to get to the audio "sweet-spot", sip a wee dram of the malt, and prepare to listen to some good tunes!
musical fidelity trivista sacd player To Mgminc: Do you include the Sony SCD-777ES as being equal to the SCD 1? It uses the same transport, weighs the same, and seems to only lack the balanced outputs.
Most achingly-beautiful music I second the vote for the Rachmaninoff 2nd.Symphony. However, I must correct "Tubegroover". The part you love is actually the 3rd. movement, not the 2nd. Irishdog.
Premier 11a good 4 ohms? The Premier 11-A is factory wired to output 4 ohms. They will make the internal changes to other impedences if the unit is returned to the factory. I have been driving the mids and highs of my Genesis V's (which are rated at 4 ohms) for some years...
Do you rember your first? Yes, I remember very well. The year was 1958. A music store in my home town had an audio department featuring classic high-end brands like McIntosh, Fisher, Scott, and JBL speakers. They even had the legendary JBL Hartsfield corner horns! The sale...
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty Hello: Although I have purchased a number of SACD's and a few DVD- A's, I am disapointed in the audio quality of most of them. I am also noticing a number of disturbing trends. 1. Everything is now being released in "surround format", and this red...
Classical Nirvana for 10-15K I certainly agree with Mark Hubbard, and would only add that two other excellent choices for driving the treble section of the Gen. V would be the Conrad-Johnson Premiere lla, or the Cary 805c single-ended monoblocks.
Review: Cardas Golden Reference Interconnect Cardas Golden Reference must NEVER be used from a source component to the pre-amp, if Golden Cross is used from pre to amp. It must be the other way around, i.e. Golden Cross from source to pre-amp, and Golden Reference from pre to power amp. If u...
BAT 50SE Vs. McIntosh C200 Preamp You might try comparing the new Mac C-2200 tube preamp with the BAT. The C-2200 is a very different animal from other Mac preamps, and most other preamps in general.
McIntosh C220 tube pre-amp Thoughts or advise vs.? After spending mucho bucks and years with the big-gun high end preamps (ARC, Levinson, VAC etc.)' I decided to sample this Mac 2200. So far I am delighted! The sound is crisp and clear without being hard, and bass is tight and deep. There is preci... |
