ESOTERIC X-03 VS. AYRE C5XE
I totally agree with Sylinnian. I had a DV-50, and had it modded by Refrence Audio Mods. It was better, but when I borrowed an Ayre C5XE, it simply blew the DV-50 away. I am impressed with its performance on every digital audio format, and am real...
ESOTERIC X-03 VS. AYRE C5XE
I,too, own an Esoteric DV-50 with the "budget" mod by ram. The improvement is amazing, and for about $1,200 bucks, a DV-50 with this mod is very hard to beat.
Whose sorry now? Sellers remorse from selling amp.
I sold my Levinson 27.5 and bought a C.J.Premier 11a. I do not regret buying the C.J. (It's a classic.), but I wish I had the 27.5 too!
Which Is Better: Esoteric DV50s or Levinson 390s?
I own an unmodded DV-50, and it is a fine player, but it is bettered by the Linn 1.1 universal. As for the modded players, including modified DV-50s, you will have to check out some of the other (quite lengthy) threads on this subject.
Sacd/dvd-a, The Hype Is Dead, For Me At Least...
I think the sensible answer is that when SACD's are good, they ARE better than most redbook CD's. The problem is that there are so many SACD's that either are poorly mastered, or will only sound their best when reproduced in a full surround system...
Sacd/dvd-a, The Hype Is Dead, For Me At Least...
I too have found many SACD's underwhelming. There are many LP's and redbook CD's that sound much better than most SACD's. Also, on my Mac C-2200, the VU meters show some sort of signal BEFORE the music starts, and the meters hang just above zero f...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Audio girl: I like the DV-50, but compared to the Linn 1.1 it is simply not as "musical". I know this is a hard term to define, like the judge who said he could not define "pornography", but he knew it when he saw it, musicality is a "know it when...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
To "audio girl": I looked up your system, and it represents excellent choices. The fact that you bought all of this gear used, and at good prices, is an added reason for pride on your part. Have you had any trouble with the Linn 1.1? A friend of m...
Esoteric DV-50, Marantz SA-11 or Arc CD3 MKII???
I own the DV-50, and find it accurate, spacious, and layered, BUT, it is a bit on the bright side on some material. Without a doubt, the best universal I have heard is the Linn 1.1, but it is quite pricey at 11,000. It is smooth, but detailed and w...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
If I must respond to this silly discussion of cheese (which I love), I will state that "Canadian Black Diamond" white chedder is the best I have ever tasted, and I have not found one to even compare in over 35 years. It is available at a good pric...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
In terms of what I have actually spent a good deal of listening time with, I would rank three digital systems in this order: l. Linn Unidisk 1.1, 2. EMM, 3. DV-50.
Why do intelligent people deny audio differences?
Tgun5: Your last comment is significent. There are many CD's that,in fact, are only bearable in the car. However, I think some of this is due to the fact that our level of sonic expectations is less in the car system. Audiophiles are almost univer...
Conrad-Johnson Premier 11a-a good used amp?
I have had my Premier 11a for quite a few years since I bought it new. It and the Mac C-2200 pre-amp make beautiful music together driving my Genesis V's.
compare new McIntosh universal player with DV-50
I wonder the same thing, Pardales. A large number of 'goners' don't like McIntosh. I beleive this is a 'silly' attitude. Too many 'high-enders' Mac stuff is for Doctors, Lawyers, and other rather staid rich folks, but not for "serious audiophiles'...
Upsampling. Truth vs Marketing
The Esoteric DV-50 is another player that does not use 96K, 192K, or 384K. The first upsampling point on the DV-50 is 352.8K, and the higher selections continue to follow that pattern.
