DVD-A on Krell and Trivista and DV-50 question
I have owned the DV-50 for about six months, and have never found it lacking in bass. I am using the balanced two-channel outputs. Are you using the player's multichannel outputs in a surround system? I get lots of good tight bass in my two-channe...
Which are the top DVD-A players?
My comments on the Linn Unidisk are based on the experience of a friend who got his in July. The sound is excellent, at least as good as the DV-50 and perhaps better. However, he has had a lot of software problems, and has had to return it to Linn...
Should Genesis V's be toed-in?
Thanks gang! One more question. Where do most of you set the mid-range and treble controls on the back of the speakers?
Best SACD for under $1200
I also have Genesis V's, and the Esoteric DV-50 (which replaced the Sony SCD 777 ES) has been the answer to a prayer. The fives have never sounded better on all formats. Save your money and get the DV-50.
c-j prem 140
Any thoughts as to how the Premier 11a stands up against the 140? Is the 140 just more powerful, or is there a significant sonic improvement?
Mcintosh C2200
Folks: I checked with Mac just minutes ago. The only software changes were to fix a problem with the input trim. On some early production units, the gain would only go up, rather than up or down as it should. There have been no changes that would ...
KRELL SACD or TEAC Esoteric DV-50
Larry: In my opinion, the DV-50 has many strengths, including great flexibility in selecting the type and degree of oversampling, an outstanding transport, and superior sonics on all formats. It also has outstanding build quality (weight is 47 lbs...
KRELL SACD or TEAC Esoteric DV-50
I have not heard the Krell, but I do own the Teac/Esoteric DV-50 universal player. I am curious as to why Michael Fremer in his rave review of the Krell player, states that the Linn Unidisk 1.1 is the only universal player worthy of serious audiop...
Which are the top DVD-A players?
I agree concerning the Esoteric DV-50, and find its SACD performance to be as good or better than most stand alone CD players. For the present, however, avoid the Linn Unidisk 1.1, even if you have the 11K. Many of these units have problems playing...
Telarc recording quality
Telarc recording quality has gone through a number of overall sonic changes during the past 20 years or so. The very early ones were well balanced, and quite musical. Then they turned a bit dull, (a reaction, I suspect to early complaints that CD ...
Mcintosh MC352 / 2102
Ljgj: I also have the Mac C-2200 pre-amp. It feeds a C. J. Premiere 11a tubed amp. I have a question. Do you use a balanced or single-ended cable between your CD player and the C-2200? I use a Nirvana SX Ltd. balanced cable for this, and wonder if...
Esoteric DV-50 break in
I agree with the above responses. I got mine on July 8, and it was the beginning of August before the true qualities of this excellent player were fully realized. Also, you should break-in each of the formats seperately for at least 50hrs. or so e...
Experience w/ Linn Unidisk 1.1 or Goldmund 18D?
I have no experience with the Goldmund unit. The Linn Unidisk 1.1 is owned by a good friend, and we listen at his place quite a bit. His Linn is having severe and increasing problems. It is gotten so bad that it will no longer recognize SACD's. It...
SACD 2 channel vs Hybrid SACD
Rprince: No, I was not at Eastman at the time, although I have known a number of musicians/teachers who were. I was teaching English at Penn Manor High School in Millersville, Pa., and was helping out with that year's district band festival. I got...
SACD 2 channel vs Hybrid SACD
Rprince: Great!! I am salivating over the opportunity to sample some of these great Mercury Living Presence releases. I was lucky to have listened to several of the original master tapes (3 channel) with Frederick Fennell back in 1960. This was on...
