Taking the analog plunge...
Just because your existing system is all-tube shouldn't limit you to tubed phono stages - particularly since that may limit you to MM cartridges.
Trying a turntable-it sounds crappy, what's up??
Lkdog,I was going to ask if you/anyone has checked the cartridge setup at all. Spend $39 on some alignment tools (you're going to need them anyway) and see if you can improve things. That said, if this has recieved significant use during its time ...
Speakers that work close to the back wall
Maril555,I don't believe any of those you mention like the back wall. Drrdiamond is correct ... my NHT 3.3's like to be placed within 6 inches of the wall.

Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
Ditto TVAD ... an old JVC ... and I still have it in a 'background' system, and it is still working.
Arm mass/cartridge compliance...help
Go to appendix 2 of this FAQ http://www.vandenhul.com/artpap/phono_faq.htm#a2I don't know the effective mass of the Ittok, but a search ought to turn it up.
Rocky return to vinyl
If I might part you with even a little more of your $ ;-) I would suggest that if you can get into the $750-1000 range you could get a setup that you will likely be happy with for a long long time - if that's not an oxymoron around here ;-). That ...
What would be the weakest link in this setup
It always is a safe bet that the weakest link is the room, followed by the recording. Spending $40 on The Master Handbook of Acoustics, and another $500 on DIY treatments, will trounce any equipment or cable upgrade. If you just have to spend more...
Front projection or not?
Just because you *can* control the light, doesn't mean you will always *want* to. My wife would never consign herself to always watching casual TV in a darkened room, and I wouldn't either. Yes, with the brighter digital projectors, you can have a...
Room treatments without $$$
Spend your first $40 on F. Alton Everest's "Master Handbook of Acoustics". Lots of easy and cheap ways to deal with high frequency problems, but low frequencies and room modes are best (if not only) handled right now, while you have choices about ...
Movin' on up
Can't rally make such a broad generalization - depends on the implementation. But, in general, as with most things, I'd think an external single purpose device would be more flexible and more single-mindedly suited to task, but probably more expen...
best amp for von schweikert vr4 jr vr4 jr's
I just heard these with both a Butler TDB-2250 and a BelCanto eVo6 Gen II bridged into dual-differential mode. Both were spectacular - the Butler giving even more body and texture to the VSA's very nice midrange, and the BC exhibiting a little mor...
Raleigh NC Area, Anyone interested in Audio Club?
We have a couple groups of enthusiasts here - one oriented more toward 2-ch and the other more HT - that meet with some frequency. Let me know if you are interested.
What's the most anolog sounding CDP
Since you are obviously partial to Cary, you could stay in the family with a 308T. I've heard it in an all-Cary system (308T>SLP2002>V12r) and it sounds fantastic.Or, the alternative I'm pursuing, a good transport with a non-OS DAC.
Do tube CD players and tube pre-amps play nice?
Physically/electrically there shouldn't be any problem. Sonically it's your call. I know people with all tubes, with tubes in just one component (be it the CDP/T, DAC, Pre, or Amp), and all combinations in between.
