Darryl and Darryl ask ... where would you start? Thanks for the response, guys and gals. I admit to subscribing to the 'buy what you love' philosophy - especially in the areas like speakers and amps which don't change much with technology and format 'advances'. I've been a poster and lurker here...
60's/70's Talking/Singing Story Ballads Arlo's 'Pause of Mr. Claus' and 'Motorcycle Song', 'Bullfrog Blues' by either Bromberg or Rory Gallagher, and Bromberg's 'Mr. Bojangles' - tho they are more songs with a story interspersed.
Need Help. What set-up should I be looking at? I agree with the above, to an extent. Nonetheless, if music is your overwhelming priority, don't put a big box between your speakers. Have those GP's in a dedicated room, go front projector, or find a way to recess your TV.At about any total price...

CES in Las Vegas worth the trip? Any idea when/where there will be current info posted for the 2003 Montreal show? The link above is still about the 2002 show.
A Little Hypocrisy? If I owned 3 CDs he might have a point. But if I were to repurchase my CD and LP collection, and it is modest by standards here, it would be much greater than my aggregate hardware cost. I believe this is true of the overwhelming majority of us.
Build me a killer Rock/Metal Rig for 1K Unsound, I don't disagree with anything you've said. This is going to be a temporary, stepping-stone solution to get some music playing. [David, I don't mean to refer to you in 3rd person as if you're not here, but I don't know if you are here ;-)...
Rega P-3 Set Up tools You might also try Turntable Basics for these tools.Marakanetz, yes I deliberated over a cleaner or cleaning brushes, but stuck to the strict interpretation of 'setup tools' - although I'd agree it is just as important in the long run.
Budget system not up to expectations... Bomarc raises an interesting point that makes me think ... The question and subsequent discussion is framed as 'what's wrong with this equipment?'. Wouldn't we take another tack if it were "how can i improve my sound?" To what extent have you look...
Build me a killer Rock/Metal Rig for 1K Unsound,Are you sure about the impedance figures? That would be the first speaker of which I've heard that had a completely flat impedance curves - most drop at least 10-15% (usually much more) from nominal to minimum. Some M-L stats go down to al...
Amps, preamps, and home theater AFAIK, there are no 3-ch integrated amps. Any integrated, or preamp/amp copmbo will work as Tim said. An HT bypass, or unity gain, feature is convenient, as it takes the preamp's volume control out of the circuit, so to speak. Otherwise, calibrate...
Separate Phono Stage-Worth the $$ ? I am not familiar with the Levinson unit, but another theoretical advantage of the separate phono stage is that many (not all) of the built-in stages have preset impedance and gain, while many (not all) separate ones have selectable/adjustable set...
Budget system not up to expectations... Painter,Does the Denon have an analog or 2-ch direct feature? And do you have any friends or a cooperative dealer from whom to get some other/better gear to try? I'd be curious about 3 options:1. a better CDP analog into the receiver's analog bypa...
Build me a killer Rock/Metal Rig for 1K David, very sorry to hear of your circumstances, but I hope the audio divestiture is the greatest of your troubles. And now for something *completely* different ...let me suggest something off the wall (my specialty) ... I don't know how important ...
