Don't know, never tried aluminum. You could also try some inexpensive, about $10 each, German made steel cones that are sold by Musicdirect. They are not spikes though and have no thread. You can send them back if you don''t like them. Get the big...
Killer Kitchen System under $800 or so?
I am about to buy Audioengine myself for the computer which happens to be in a small kitchen. Just can't decide whether to buy smaller A2 or bigger and better A5. Price difference is really insignificant but I may actually get the smaller ones bec...
Phono amp recommendation for both mm & mc
I have a general impression that it is more psychologically difficult for most people here to upgrade turntable/tonearm than cartridge and phono stage. Agreed, it is often a more expensive upgrade but not always by much or at all.

Ebm, thank you for reminding us what you have. But what do you think of what we are talking about?Mrtennis, you are alone here, with the dictionary. Perhaps you just don't quite understand the concept or simply need to remain argumentative.Orpheus...

Right. Great engineer will make an excellent sounding amp using off the shelf parts of reasonably good quality. The same with speakers. How many times did you encounter expensive speakers that used "NASA grade" tweeters and woofers that just didn't...

Now you know how to divorce her if you want it at some point. She should like the look and sound of Vienna; why do you think they sell so many speakers?

Yeah, but not all spikes are created equal; cheap small steel spikes is never the best idea.

I think that those manufacturers who read this are quite entertained by this NASA stuff. Also, those NASA grade parts should be able to interact with each other in a NASA grade style or it would be such a waist. And, Audiozen, please keep your zen ...

I would do it the other way around. Ask your wife to give you two/three choices and make the final choice yourself. Because it should be yours.
Almost Time to Replace My DV-20xl
I would still wait to buy a very expensive cartridge. Just get a new 20XL for now or have your old one retipped. And never say never; what if your new TW will sound better to your ears with another arm? There are no kepers in absolute terms.

I would add Vienna to the list. Probably not the best choice for rock though.

Well, more often than not turntable and speakers require different approaches though there might be similarities depending on each particular case and sound preference. It is always hard to guess right, usually some experimenting is in order. For ...

That's right. Yeah, you could try the maple platform, but this platform should be spiked with the spikes going through the carpet into the hardwood floor; and the speakers should be spiked as well while on the platform. This would not be a very che...

I wouldn't say that "the rest is easy" but perhaps a little easier or at least no more difficult.

If you still use that VPI I suggest you not spend much on cartridge; better save on table upgrade. Turntable is the most important part of the analog front end no matter what some foreign audiophiles here say.
