Pioneer DV-45A or Denon 2200 Universal players
One of my comparisons included an Al DiMeola recording by Telarc. The redbook version sounded better than the SACD version. This suprised me since the SACD vesion was on a sampler disk which presumably would be superior.
Modern Day Dahlquist DQ-10
A shop in Peoria Illinois has a pristine pair of DQ-10's. Let me know if your interested and I'll find their number for you. Don't forget- the DQ-10's are major power suckers.
Add, Change, or Delete? N801 , Krell , Wadia.....
Do you like the N801's more than the 10T's?
What's the 'ideal' room size?
Wow Ozfly - nice post and I think it's exactly what Eandeely needed. Room acoustics as you point out are so important. They however get way too little attention. In my case, I know some RPG Skylines on the ceiling would help my system a lot. Unfor...
What's the 'ideal' room size?
This is actually a complex subject. You could read the Master Handbook of Acoustics and use the required room optimizer software and then hope you get it right or you could hire Richard Rives who is an experienced acoustic engineer specializing in...
Speakers for under $10k used?
Shahinian Diapasons- because they sound closer to real live music than any of the hundreds of speakers I have auditioned
Speaker for Plinius SA250 mkIV
John Marks used the big Plinius with the larger Aerials (either 10t or 20t's). I think he was quite impressed.
Help me find it again
I'm with Sean and Newbie on the subs. Like Sean said, transmission line designs are the way to go. Might I suggest the Buggtussel Tegmentum subwoofer. It should give you the live rythmic pulse you crave and then some. I also agree the better bass ...
What's Better - Denon 2900 or Sony NS999es? Why?
Sean, does the Panasonic have SACD ability? I'm guessing it does not.
Best all around box speaker between 15K and 25K
Cshouse007- Have you heard all of the above? If not I suspect your claims are suspect!
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
It was a Yamaha. Bought it in 1984 or 1985. It cost $450 but that seemed like a deal since before that most were $1000 or more. I remember playing Yes 90125 at max volume and amazing all who listened. It started skipping at age 3 and I threw it away.
Speakers you regret selling
Shahinian Diapasons, sold em in a cash crunch. Bought some Soundlabs (thinking they would be better)when I had money again. Still longed for the Shahinians. Sold the Soundlabs, bought a brand new pair of Shahinian Diapasons and lived happily ever ...
Verity Audio Parsifal Encores or Vandy 5s???
I know I've said it before Bigkidz but the Shahinian Hawks or Diapasons would be good for you. They also are capable of ridiculous loud volume levels and chest thumping bass. If you're in Illinois, stop by and I'll make you a convert!
live dvd/v concerts
Second- James Taylor Beacon
Build a system around speakers in the $5-$7.5K
Jimwitnauer, I'm sorry I criticized a speaker that you like. I know it's irritating to hear someone criticize something you like or own. I still haven't fully recovered from Stereophiles extremely negative review of my beloved Shahinian Diapasons.
