Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
@toddalin all that plastic on the seat reminds me of Mr Wolf in “Pulp Fiction”. (Or a crisco party.)
Need help to select a speaker
New or used? (That seems like a large bedroom by the way.)   Some candidates so far are: 1- Sonus faber Electa Amator III 2- Falcon LS3/5a Gold Badge 3- Harbeth P3ESR XD Are you in the UK? Or where are you?
Aftermarket Upgrade Question
@mucker maybe: A brush to wipe the dust off,   A way to clean the stylus once in a while. Some sleeves for records if they need them. A cheap scale to ensure that the tracking force is set OK. Download a protractor to check the alignment, (...
length of interconnects for passive preamp
None of that makes any sense. Maybe it might, but with a spec, the one can determine something. capacitance is given in Farads (milli, micro, nano or Pico farads) inductance in Henrys (Milli, Micro, nano, Pico) What you give seems sort of li...
length of interconnects for passive preamp
@williewonka  For a passive stage - I would want to use the very best cable possible to maximize signal transfer. Can you intimate what “The very best” translates to in terms of specs?
Need help to select a speaker
Maybe a bit more homework to narrow down the field could help? Passive or active? dipole, or not? Sealed or ported? Narrow dispersion or wide? Is full range required? Or how low should they go? Are ye Ok with using a sub or not? Do you al...
MM vs MC Cartridges
Garrott bros in Australia, and SoundSmith in the US, both do the MI cartridges. (I was considering the Hana ML, but ended up with a Garrott Bros.) Peter Ledermann (SoundSmith) has some videos where he makes some compelling arguments for his MI d...

MM vs MC Cartridges
I’m dealing with the situation but I’m helping a friend with his vinyl rig and I believe a low output cartridge would be too much of a challenge for his Rega phono amp. So, how about medium output cartridges? I know they’re out there. Can people ...
Room Acoustics: Where to place the squares?
@magister and @erik_squires That acoustics.com site talks about room modes. Are you two fellows also discussing room modes? And what is OP looking for? Room modes?
Room Acoustics: Where to place the squares?
My point is, if you don’t have control over the room decay you won’t notice first reflection point absorption. I’ve treated several rooms, and never have I heard a big improvement by treating first reflection points alone. Only once the room was ...
McCormack DNA HT3 Amp and Bellari 532 Passive Pre-amp ..Good Match ?
Steve used to make passive preamps so most of his amps should be compatible. Is that like ‘ModSquad’? The manual says: Input Impedance: 100 kohm Input Sensitivity: 0.870 Vrms Voltage Gain: 30.5 dB Frequency Response: 3dB ~ 5Hz, 200 kHz Signa...
Room Acoustics: Where to place the squares?
Of course people will advise you to put them at 1st reflection points but honestly I find that alone this is never enough.  You need to have a critical mass of room treatment before you get a noticeable benefit IMHO. ^To cut down the decay time...
Room Acoustics: Where to place the squares?
If one measures the room, the speaker placement, and the listener position… then one can ray trace the bounces to get the delays from the reflections relative to the direct path. If one then does a correlation the combing will show the reflections...

Hey @Holmz Unfortunately most of those discussions do not actually provide new information, a new perspective, or new methods of evaluation and test. The arguments tend to pool around whether the scientific methods which are in the domain of ...
