Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
@ieales There’s much more to sound than SPL. That snippet you took was out of a response to your post about SS and tube amps not making the same voltage. Are you saying the voltage is proportional to something other than SPL? Or what does th...
length of interconnects for passive preamp
My passive sucked the life out of my system when I was using very inefficient speakers and monoblocks, which required  3 meter ICs. Ideally we change only 1 thing at a time. I recently switched to very sensitive speakers (horns) and a stereo ...
Looking for Blues with High Fidelity
I have most of Doug MacLeod’s work. It seems to be generally very well recorded.
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
@lanx0003  What is lacking here is the actual testing / comparison before and after the luxuary power cable is used? Does the power get cleaner? I don’t think it is hard to do, right?😉 I believe the burden of proof is on whoever claiming the sup...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
This, on the OP’s leading post, says a lot: Be true to yourself, but I find very little on earth less worthwhile than having arguments about measurements vs. sound quality and value.  It is not like measurements are not largely correlated with...
length of interconnects for passive preamp
@williewonka don’t do this: using any old piece of wire is defeating the purpose of having a passive pre in the first place That is a straw man misquoting, as I said I had no opinion on geometry and size. I also said I only care about “leng...
tonearm effective mass vs tracking force
One is a static force (tracking force) The other is dynamic (effective mass). Static force is unaffected by mass. Any wriggles of the stylus also produce a force. In this case the equation of F=MA comes into play. Imagine shaking a blowing ball...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
FWIW, I've never measured a tube amp output voltage into a loudspeaker that was anywhere close to what an SS amp delivered into the same load... going back to the 70's. Admittedly, it's a small sample, and largely irrelevant as measurements mostl...
Inexpensive speaker cables: any experience?
@rooze that last link you posted talks about the main measurable parameters having the most pronounced effect. Conclusion #1 – A cable’s electrical properties can be measured. In doing so we find there are a number of significant differences bet...
length of interconnects for passive preamp
OK Steve lets get back onto the topic of: “Length of interconnects for passive pre.”   I see no great point for multi stranded wire in the interconnect. But I suppose if there is some 20-28 gauge stranded wire then why/why not? (I have no ...

Aftermarket Upgrade Question
I would just listen to it. You will either like it and maybe upgrade in a few years, like it just how it is, or chuck it or sell it. So I would not even modify anything. Just brush the LPs, and spin em up.
length of interconnects for passive preamp
Thanks @williewonka I’ll try to keep my tone civil. Geometry: One of the 3 PS links mentions woven cables, which sound like what the Kimber 4TC and 8TC are. And you also mention the silver gold Mundorf. Is that a single solid core? and… ...
Need help to select a speaker
No, I am in California US @inteliaudio  I would suggest that you go try some Vandersteens. (And they’re made in Ca.)   but I love British (and European in general) speakers better than these harsh sounding Americans. I thought the term wh...
