What was the most impactful addition to your system?
Sub for me as well @wfowenmd . The rest was pretty much smoke-n-mirrors in comparison.
Audiophile Myth - Subjective or Objective for Music
Looking for a “tome control”… TLDR.   Audiophile always claim they are chasing the original sound from the live music.  Live amplified music and studio recordings are not exactly “Live Music” like non amplified music is. And we listen to a l...
Opinions on system replacement
Speaker are where we couple (impedance match) the electrical energy to the acoustic. I don’t love my speakers and will consider replacing them at  some point and had originally considered replacing them first. My listening room is small- 10’x11’...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
Lyngdorf anyone?      : ) @tunefuldude it is easy to make a cogent argument for them, providing that one abides the loss of “purity”… which is sort of tied to the remove of simple tone controls. Certainly easier to get a good sound without goi...
Grounding cable gauge size
@rixthetrick  Talking with one of the locals in Ireland, the local lads after getting lubricated at the pub, used to go up and pee all over that stone. Of course, I was told after I'd kissed the damned thing myself. The electrolytes improve th...
Grounding cable gauge size
A stone version makes for solid grounding.
New Power Cable on a 1990 Hafler DH120?
The sound of an electronic component starts with its power supply. NOT with the wire connecting it to the AC outlet. If you believe otherwise then I recommend joining the Flat Earth Society. The FES has chapters all around the globe. Except fo...
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
My hypothesis is: difficult to drive speakers are more sensitive to the quality of the PC and vice versa. Opinion? If there was a difference, then it should be happening when there is more need to have greater current flowing in. So ^your hypot...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
I would suspect that a good salesman would not claim that others are close or better. But I have also heard nothing but good about Ralph’s work. There is Purifi and Benchmark that are generally well regarded amps in the Class-D space. Or… perso...
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
My bad. It’s AC120. Agree. As I have said earlier, the current is inversely proportional to the impedance. The impedance of the speakers changes with the frequencies of the music, so the amount of instantaneous current drawn by the speakers f...
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
The voltage and current are alternating at 60Hz. The voltage is relatively constant at 120V, but the amplitude of the current pulse with the music. How closely this pulse can track the demand has an effect on the sound we hear.  Brother, I seri...
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
In other words, could you have equal technical performance and quality in a Class D amp? @jackhifiguy by what measure would we consider equal “technical performance” and “quality”?
The Wrong Vinyl In the Right Jacket
Sound like the Eminem LP I was missing - with it sitting on the TT.
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
@Creutzfeldt-Jakob Amplifier is only a black box between the PC and the speakers. PC provides the juice. If the instantaneous demand by the speakers are not delivered by the PC, the sound will be affected. Why don’t we have a problem 60 to 120...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
@dain @holmz your post on different systems sounding loud at different SPL is fascinating and fits my experience too. Listening to a friends system, records and tubes and high efficiency speakers I was shocked it measured 100+ Db but didn’t sou...
