Is system synergy worth having matched components?
How would we know if synergy can happen? Or is it the we get every preamp to go a specific amp or visa versa? On the amp to speaker side, it is pretty clear that a small SET running low sensitivity and.or low impedance speaker is going to not rea...
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
@hilde45 I am not an expert, it is just my perspective. So yeah there is new stuff happening. Just it is not happening at $2000/pair. (IMO) Or it is limited to a bit here and a bit there.   My 35 year old speaker were great in the 80s. And they...
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
@hilde45 I think that we are probably more in alignment than not. Distortion Those pistonic drivers, the Accutons, and various beryllium tweeter are covering cone break up. (But we don’t see them on many low end systems.) The new Purifi motors, ...

Maybe feed forward compensation can help?

What you’re describing is tangency, I don’t know why you’re not comfortable with the word commonly used to describe this aspect of pickup arm geometry. Tangency has zero effect on freqeuncy (pitch). But I’m done with this conversation - the quest...
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
Thank you for weighing in. This is why I suspected the claim by @holmz (that there has been very little advances in materials since the 80's or 90's) might need checking. @hilde45 sure, at the upper end there have been advances, but at the that...

Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
Personally I would not upgrade them. (It seems to be at best a minor sideways swap. There is no evidence that much has changed other than inflation. For example, my 80s speakers were ~ $800, and are now $5650… and while they are on their 7th or 8...
Is system synergy worth having matched components?
No. Most devices, like preamps, have an output impedance that is pretty low. Most amps have a high input impedance. if it sound good, then get more music and be happy.
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
A lot of setups are in dual purpose rooms. Systems in living spaces just aren’t going to have speakers pushed into the room as they should be to breathe. Every time I set them up the Haus-boss will say that the sound is coming from behind the ...
The best phono cartridge alignment tool
I usually use a table and then move it to the rack and relieves it. Is this method fraught with issues? (Other than a long set of interconnects)
Electric cars will ruin late night listening?
Do you have an O-scope? Teslas plugged in have to sound quieter than the brap-brap-whoosh of a car going down the road sound like an A-10 on a straffing run.
Totally overwhelmed (speakers under $5k)
ASR listen with measurements only. Using “Science” sort of forces something that the quantified and provable.   Not earshot seems very clinical to me and there are things we cannot measure I’m convinced.  There are also things that we do n...

what changed ? the most disgusting thing is that the level of the music itself (as the art and skill of the performers) ... has monstrously degraded ... True. People talk about cables, fuses, mechanical isolation and other tweaks… long before ...

I am the OP, so it was my fantasy not @dover . It is not “tangency”, but the walking of the point across the platter dues the arc of the tone arm. But as was pointed out in the very opening post it amounts to “a bee’s phallus” amount of shift… I...
