Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? @wolf_garcia Thanks for weighing in. I always learn from your experience! @drewportland I'll take a look. Great idea!
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? Thanks to posters for the additional ideas! @vthokie83 There are some of these, nearby me: https://tmraudio.com/speakers/floorstanding-speakers/tannoy-definition-dc10a-floorstanding-speakers-gloss-black-pair/ Heard them?
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? @ozzy62 Thanks. You're surely right those details matter more with horns. I wonder as @doyle3433 points out whether the Volti is more forgiving/flexible than the Klipsch (modern versions -- good point you made about that, too).
Building a dedicated listening room Once you figure out the room, learn REW.
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? @trivema The Klipsch I’ve heard have sounded a bit shouty and harsh. I bet this was due to (a) poor synergy between speaker and amp(s) and likely (b) lack of good room acoustics. I am hoping my next speaker adventure does not immediately launc...

Single input tube preamp There's an LTA Microzotl with two input tubes on USAM in your price range, and it comes with a linear power supply. The seller seems to have a great reputation. (I am not him/her.) That might be your answer. Very solid and well regarded product.
Eliminated my preamp with amazing results OP, you didn't mention your speakers and their specs. That's important, I think. I have tried the following alternatives to my tubed preamp, with both tube and class A amps: eliminated the preamp -- result was harshness and lack of soundstage....
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? @james633 I have 3 subs and miniDSP to dial them in, so your suggestion is very apropos. Thanks. @blisshifi They are very "cool" speakers and I've liked them when I heard them, but for my tastes and wallet, I've moved away from an early fixation ...
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? @doyle3433 Appreciate your input! I am very interested in the Volti Razz. A fully formed midrange? Sign me up. @decooney mentioned them to me, too. Thanks for the tip about the Florida Expo! @markmuse My listening with the Spatial had the same ...
Efficient speakers -- What was your journey from A to B to ? @perkadin Thanks for your reply. Zu being raucous is what I've heard -- and for some, that works well. I need something which avoids "raucous." I've heard others describe Forte as the sweet spot. Good to get confirmation from you. @larryi Thank...
Floor to Bookshelf I’m very familiar with the Dynaudio Evoke series and they are quite good. However, I spent 7 months with Fritz speakers and wrote about them here and here. They are extensively discussed on this forum -- use the search bar or see, e.g., here. I th...
What to ask when buying used speakers? "If there is a problem with them that can be fixed, who in my locality can do the work?"
Speaker and amp advice needed If you're concerned about ceiling height and tweeter height, you might try measuring your reflections with REW and a mic. Or just try some room treatments on the ceiling and/or add a rug at the first reflection point on the floors in front of the ... |
