Looking for new to me Jazz music Rather than list artists I like, I’d simply direct you toward the ECM label. It’s very eclectic -- they’ll have genres you like, I’m sure, and many others -- but their recordings are also very well recorded, engineered.Oh, what the hell. Here are ...
Keith Jarrett on the importance of audio sound quality jjss, thanks. It's hard to mic a piano well. I've had some good times going from one classical piece to the next, same piece but different recording, to see how it was done. They vary a lot, and there are different ways to succeed, and many differ...
What’s the best DAC match for the Cambridge Audio CXC original or V2? A not-unrelated question is this:Of the Dacs which meet your (a) price point, (b) possible sonic preferences, which are (c) available to try out in your present system? As many point out, it's very hard to make snap judgements about audio. It help...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? @millerc and @twoleftears - thanks. I was really trying to avoid a much wider and contentious conversation by asking the question so narrowly, and I appreciate the straightforwardness of those last two answers.
Keith Jarrett on the importance of audio sound quality Thanks for the article. Will go read!I listen to KJ and Peacock nearly every day! I didn't know that Peacock had died. Jeebus, I'm disconnected.I really love Peacock's work with Towner, by the way.I've read that KJ's live Blue Note recordings are ...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) @mesch That is such a nice thing to hear! Thank you! And there are a number of people on this forum (including you!) who have taken their time to answer questions, ask questions, provide advice, provide a sounding board, and more -- a genuine comm...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? @djones51 -- Sure, just voicing opinions -- or rather, "facts," namely, facts about what did or didn’t make a difference for you, in your system, with your preferences, etc. The more clearly we describe the experiments we conducted, the more other...
What’s the best DAC match for the Cambridge Audio CXC original or V2? Agree w/ others. There's no matching question here. It's a question of the kind of sound you're looking for and the way you achieve that given the various factors in play in your room, system, etc. That said, here's my experience: I have tubes -- t...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? @djones51 As I'm intending it for the purposes of conversation, a "tweak" is something supplemental to the system, something which is not necessary to make it work. For example, a speaker cable is not a tweak. A fancy speaker cable is. Etc.An exter...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? @mahgister With all due respect, if you say the word "Embed" one more time, I'm going to send a trickster genie to your house to switch the polarity on your speakers. We get it man, we get it.
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? @jtcf Extra points for brevity!
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? @cd318 Thanks for your candor on the things you've tried but decided weren't doing much. It's so easy to imagine one is hearing something "subtle" in response to a tweak, that it's nice to hear someone just come out and say, "nope, didn't hear a d...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)? Interesting list. And of course, all your experience, so no arguments from me.What you say which I profoundly agree with is the need to treat my room. Not sure how, but if it is like nearly everyone else's room, it's got "issues."
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?) @reg19 Thanks. That ship has sailed (I bought other speakers) but @decooney will be interested to hear your claim about tubes and the ML 60s. He has the ML 40s (perhaps a different curve) and has a tube amp, albeit a more powerful one.
All New Joseph Audio Profile Loudspeakers // The Affordable Reference ! The author in that forum does a nice job with the review, but tips his/her hat in the beginning by disclosing their standard approach: "I tend to gush over new equipment I buy that sounds good and write a quick review." |
