Have you changed your mind about a brand? Was it you, or them?
I used to have a lot of respect for lower end B&W speakers; bought my dad some in the 1990s and they sounded nice with NAD gear.On my recent outings to audition bookshelves, all the B&W speakers were over-bright to the point of aggressive ...
Speaker stands on spikes or just set-screws? Make a difference?
@mitch2 Thanks -- good advice and a logical place to go, next.
Desire to try tubes
@jwlaff -- I’ve heard that Quicksilver integrated with Dynaudio 84 db sensitivity speakers; it’s a great value and its 20 watts kicks more butt than one can imagine. Watts aren’t everything, and the quality of the Quicksilver build proves that.@jj...
Speaker stands on spikes or just set-screws? Make a difference?
Thanks, Erik. On my concrete floor with 1/4 carpet, those bolts are invisible and pretty stable. I'll skip the spikes.
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)?
One tweak used which I was pretty sure I *could* hear was putting a couple of 10lb weights, one each, on top of some bookshelf speakers. Tightened up the imaging for sure. Then, I started curling with them every time I listened to music. ("I'm hug...
Buchardt A500, KEF LS50 Wireless, etc. What are your top 3 downsides?
@mfgillia Good luck with the speakers. The software issues and lifespan of support is a real concern to me. On the other hand, I look at my home theater system and see AR 48 3 way speakers which I bought in 1982 and have worked with every receiver...

@oldhvymec Thanks -- and I'll take good care of them. Appreciate the various suggestions. I'll think about all these things and save this thread. And scientific studies make progress, sometimes only 326 participants at a time. I'm not an optimist, ...

Help me decide my next amp
@jjss49 I actually love the idea of trying to build an amp. The craziness now needs to abate a bit, but what fun! I'd be up for it. And since I'm Colorado, I'll bring some baked goods and we can really make a groovy kit.
Speaker stands on spikes or just set-screws? Make a difference?
@twoleftears  Thanks. I've lingered on that site more than once.
Desire to try tubes
Whatever you do, OP, don’t expect to be "one and done." No matter what people tell you, even the "best" systems eventually move on to something better. Even the most confident audiophiles eventually replace their "ultimate speakers" with better on...
Tweaks you got rid of because they were not effective (enough)?
@duckworp -- thanks. If I’m understanding, from the top down it’s:speakergranite chopping boardsGaia feettop of the speaker standthen....what underneath the speaker stand? Spikes, feet? Or perhaps it doesn’t matter much given how effective the abo...
Desire to try tubes
Thanks, will starting with pre-amp better than tube amp? Do you need both for the best tube sound? 5k would be tops for both if need/desire both. And yes i will check those resources to understand impedence matching did not know about that...I hav...
New Tinnitus study and possible treatment (via Science Daily)
Excellent questions -- perhaps something in the scientist's video about the mechanisms involved: https://www.neuromoddevices.com/company/technologyI'm pretty sure mine is from listening to music too loud while teen to 30s or so.
Speaker stands on spikes or just set-screws? Make a difference?
Thanks, all. I'll try the set-screws and not worry too much about it. It was just a last minute change I wasn't anticipating and was wondering about your experience. @mitch2 I have no need for an extended thread on this. Just gently poking the hiv...
