RMAF 2021 Cancelled
As a Denver resident, this is quite sad. I was going to buy everyone on Audiogon a beer.
Learning to Listen: Neurological Evidence
@femoore12 I honestly don’t understand why this topic seems to be so controversial. If you have ever learned to play an instrument, learned to read music, learned how to sing in a choir, learned how to harmonize with other voices, then this topic ...
Auditioning headphones (ethically)?
Not sure where the ethical concern comes in, if you're abiding by the return policies. The Music Room literally expects people to try and return things, so I'd think that other companies must expect the same, or at least they should if they want t...
Two channel and home theater room under construction
@soix Remember the scene in the 1981 movie Diva where the girl is rollerskating around the French guy's apartment, while he sits in the center of a largely empty room doing a puzzle and listening to music? That'd be the goal, here, if I wasn't a m...
Two channel and home theater room under construction
Here's a brief recording of the room with nothing in it. Just old solid state gear but my current speakers in the mix: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Fmp8xHNgvdtHjBUy9
Learning to Listen: Neurological Evidence
OP, thank you so much for this post. Adding it to my library and will learn from this. FYI, I've been having a back and forth with Ethan Winer and he keeps *insisting* that if his list of measurements show no difference between cables, then anythi...
Two channel and home theater room under construction
Erik -- there will be a subpanel and three of the dedicated lines are 6 feet from the panel. And you wouldn't believe how little it cost to add them. If I don't use them, I don't use them. But I'll never say, "I wish I had..."
Two channel and home theater room under construction
@tomic601 My current room has an RT60 which ranges from 440ms-225ms between 40 hz and 150 hz and then is more or less between 150 ms and 200 ms from 150-12k hz. In this new room, I'm not sure what I'll get. I suppose the numbers don't mean that mu...
Two channel and home theater room under construction
Thanks all! Yes only doing resilient channels on the ceiling. I hadn’t really considered doing them elsewhere because the other walls are concrete, or at least two of them are. I realize that it’s best to have all the walls the same in terms of th...
Listening Descriptor Chart
Yes, great diagram -- and one some of us might add to with our own phrases. Much appreciated.
So I just bought a Hegel H390 and
I've not had the H390 but am confident it's a gem and very powerful. Indeed, this is so capable that without some further parameters (room size, music preferences, etc.) that $10k is going to open up an unmanageably long list of speaker choices fo...
Listening Skills Part Duex: What are you listening for?
A few comments about the above:@whart -- love your answer. Especially the part about becoming a passionate student of music. The gear transported you to a new world of discovery. Job done! There are so many ways to solve this, based on room, differ...
Listening Skills Part Duex: What are you listening for?
I love this topic, OP. Well chosen and set up.Here are a couple questions I'm especially interested in hearing your take on. These are earnest questions.1. When you initially were trying to hear more, what was the reason? What motivated you to dev...
Speakers for triode tube amps
@charlesA Quicksilver Integrated tube amplifier, rated 20 watts, does fine driving Focal Aria 906's, rated at 89.5 dB sensitivity. I listen at moderate volume, and the volume control stays around 10:30 o'clock.Agreed. I heard that integrated drivi...
Budget External DAC Recommendations
Good question. Are all those Dacs available used? You are mentioning good Dacs. The Denafrips would grab my attention. That said, consider Soekris, too: https://soekris.modhouseaudio.com/soekris-audiophile-line
